I have only been abroad once in my life - feel left out Watch

As you grow more independent you can do these sorts of things on your own.

I hadn't travelled widely at all as a kid, it's only just taken off as I've got to this age where I've got my own money and some other people to go with.

If you can't help it, then why should the teasing matter? Just say, 'oh well my parents never want to go, nothing I can do about it'. If they're really that sad about it, you don't need to be talking to them anyway.

When you do look into it, there's plenty of budget flights, hostels and trips available for surprisingly low amounts. Search around and you'll find stuff. As someone else mentioned, Ryanair are usually my first port of call for flights.

If you're looking to beg for something, France might be an idea.

It's not amazingly different, but it's a different country.

My family never want to go. Friends do more exciting things. I don't even have a girlfriend. I'm a failure at life.
Wow, that's seriously extreme. You shouldn't be ashamed of not going abroad every year. Just think of it like this, when you're in uni, you can go wherever you want! :woo:

I've never been abroad in my life. Infact, I've never been on holiday.

Yeah, imagine my first day of term, every year, when I was at school: ''Draw a picture or write a story about what you did.'' **** all, that's what.

Aw, bless. You sound like me at that age. Don't worry, you're not the only teenager with a boring family and no girlfriend. These are not critical life failings.

I'm sure at least one of your friends must have a couple of days free to take a cheap flight though. Maybe you just need to do the legwork and then persuade them?

Hah, I'd have given this an A+, this is probably why I'm not a teacher.

Don´t worry, the majority of the people, at least in my country, do not have the possibility of going abroad till they have a job and til they are 22-25 or something.

Yey! Nah, you'd be a great teacher (I may be biased).

So melodramatic! Its really no big deal. In a few years you can go abroad as much as you want. Clearly, your school (and partly TSR) are full of rich people, many families never go abroad simply because they cant afford it. Dont worry!

really rubbish place in Yorkshire or something.

My brother goes to university in Yorkshire and would take offence to such a comment.

Anyway - what sort of school do you go to? Because there are more people in my school that haven't been abroad than have. I have friends who've never even been to London (which is only an hour and a half away on the train), or even other UK cities. They just stay within the confines of the small market town in which they reside.

I really wouldn't worry about this too much. You've got plenty of time to experience travel as you get older. If this is the best thing people have to make fun of you for, chances are you're otherwise all right.

I often feel the same as you, it's very difficult when everyone else goes to brilliant places and you're left behind in rainy old blighty.
One girl at university was outrightly rude about how little I've been abroad.

However, it is nothing to feel ashamed about, there's nothing that you could have done, one can't choose which socio-economic background they're born into.
Others may have the advantage now, but they've been spoilt in a sense because I find that when I have been abroad (three times- I'm 19) I appreciate it more because it's all new to me and it's exciting.
Look forward to the future, things can pick up and you can go anywhere you want.
You're not a failure at life.

Phew, I've never really been abroad either. I've been to Slovakia for a half an hour and Germany for like 5 minutes.

Well, you've been abroad once more than I have.
If people have nothing better to do than tease you because of it, it just shows how pathetic and immature they are.
Chances are, if you went abroad with your family you'd be as bored as when you stay in the UK. Just wait until you are old enough/can afford it and you can go where you want.

So what? I've only been abroad once too, but on the plus side I've seen lots of nice places in Britain. Just enjoy thinking about all the places you could go in the future.
