Both I think. I remember in Freshers week i hardly ate at all, this continued throughout the first term i probably lost around a stone. I got home for christmas and ate everything in sight, and continued to eat more throughout the rest of the uni year. I put that stone back on and then some.

I'd be interested to know, if people were catered or self catered when they lost/gained?

I would expect weight gain for catered as when i've paid for school lunch in advance I've always felt the need to eat my monnies worth.. and hence put on weight

but when I was buying my own school lunch I lost weight... I used to spend 70p on lunch!! (cuppa soup and one/two slices of toast!!)
I don't think I would have gained if I was catered for. I think I gained weight because of the lack of routine when eating meals. Sometime I would not eat then other times I would snack whilst watching films/reading.

If I can shed off the pounds before leaving university I'll be happy :o:

ALL my friends, except from one girl who's always been tiny, have gained weight. A lot came back a good stone or even two heavier. I think it's down to take aways and alcohol.

I definitely lose weight at uni and put it on at home. At uni I don't want to spend loads of money so just buy myself the basics, and always cook fresh (plus I do more so am more active...although ive tried to be more active at home this summer). At home the fridge and cupboards are always stocked and my dads always making huge dinners - most of which is just processed, ready made crap. Its so frustrating! Oh well, I've still never topped 10 stone and I'm learning to resist the cookies in the kitchen haha.

Lost about a stone during the first few weeks due to fresher's flu. Since then I slowly put the stone back on give or take a pound. It's so easy to gain weight at uni cos most people fall into a habit of eating ready meals and takeaways quite regularly as they're much easier and cheaper, and drinking loads and loads of alcohol.

I put on a stone in the first year and there it's stayed! Have since managed to lose 5lbs and am finding the rest very very difficult to budge
