Inspired by this thread, I played a few* games of noughts and crosses against people today by PM and found that around 40% couldn't find the correct continuation against

    Code:
    X| |
     | |
     | |
More worrying was the fact that a number of people claimed not to know how to play noughts and crosses!

Do people not read replies before doing something like this. In fact, just read the first reply.

So what is the correct continuation?
Going in the middle. Anything else loses to a series of corner moves by X.

Interesting fact: for every dimension "n", there is a side length "k" such that playing naughts and crosses on a k*k*....*k (n times) n-dimensional grid can not possibly ever result in a draw.
Even more interesting fact: the above is true (with correspondingly bigger k) even for an arbitrary number of people playing, e.g. for a game of "naughts and crosses and triangles and squares and..." .

My volume wasnt on and i was sitting back away from the screen = no effect.

I was also well on my way to victory in the game.
