    Hi all,
basically at I'm at my school sixth form and last year there was a problem with my attendance, which resulted in me being put on a monitoring card. Since then my attendance has been a lot better with the odd lesson being missed very very rarely. Recently I've been visiting a few unis and yesterday and today I've had the day off ill. We use the self certification system in our school to report absences, but my school now seem to always want letters from my parents, even though I am 18.

Every single time I'm not there I get a huge go at me and they think I'm always bunking. They always assume the worst with me, and they constantly monitor me. It's almost like Big Brother. I can understand them doing it around the time of the attendance problem but thats stopped and my attendance is much better. I have friends who have been much worse than me, but they never seem to get picked up. Are the school allowed to scrutinise my attendance like this? And seeing as I'm 18 are they allowed to contact my parents?

It almost seems as if there is one standard for me but a much more loose and relaxed standard for others.

    Please help guys!!!

Yes, they are allowed to contact parents, monitor attendence etc. Sixth forms are basiclly schools - you being there is a place that someone else could have had.

You brought this all upon yourself with poor attendence earlier in the year.

For the record, you're lucky to get that - at my College you got one warning and then you were kicked out.

My sixth form has more than enough places, they struggle to fill them.
