I've moved out of halls and going into a shared student flat in August. When should I start setting up things for the internet, electricity, gas etc. I haven't a bloody clue, the letting agency haven't said anything (we don't even know what gas company we're with, and they won't let us change anyway).

Also, what's the best internet provider? Most deals seem to be for a minimum of a year, and we're not in the flat for that long so...I don't know really. Any advice much appreciated!

There are numbers you can ring to find out. Sorry I don't have the number on me though. You'll need to:
    - Find out who you're with (also, find out if you're on a meter or whatever)
    - Decide whether you stick with them
    - Record the meter numbers and everything
    - Call them to let them know that you're the new tenants and what name the bills will be under and stuff, and ask when you're next bill will be coming/payment methods etc

And also, call your council to find out about rubbish collections!
