What Do I Wear

Right i have an appointment with the job centre about claiming job seekers allowance and job advice at 4.00pm

The problem is my mates birthday is on the same day and im meeting up with a mate to go bowling and cinema in Swindon and then im going to my appoinment which is also in Swindon and then im going with my mate stright after to mcdonalds.

But i don't want to wear smart clothes for example: smart trousers and shirt to the cinema and bowling and mcdonalds. I also do not want to keep changing before and after appointment.

So would it be ok if i went to the job centre casually dressed because it isnt a job interview is it? Has anyone else been to the job centre if so what did you wear?

I've seen tramps in the job centre... I'm sure casual clothing is fine.

Wear nothing, it shows you're able to do anything.
I wore a hoody and jeans lol!
I was only like 15 though :/

It really doesnt matter, when I got made redundant I went to the job centre thinking I'd dress smart to try and make a good impression etc, went in wearoing officewear - believe me, you still get treated like every other scumbag in there!

The job centre really won't be bothered what you wear to appointments there. I did find, however, that they were always really nice to me when I was signing on, because I was polite and appeared to be making some sort of concerted effort to find a job. It's a pretty grim job for them, so just seem like you mean it, be pleasant, and try not to look frustrated even if you are, and you'll be fine.

I went in there (only once thank god) and everybody was wearing tracksuits....wear what the hell you want, they don't care.
I went in there wearing Cannibal Corpse t-shirts and jeans. They don't care what you wear though they do request you cover your chest for all of our sakes.
I don't know where you live but you'd get beaten up for going into the job centre wearing a suit where I live! Remember some of these people have never had a job and have probably never had a shower either, they're probably wearing the same clothes they had on last time they signed on.

I realise some people aren't complete scrubbers who are on the dole but smart clothes would still definitely be out of place.
I went to the job centre and I have an appointment today. I’ve been getting sick pay, so not all are scums. I’m no longer sick but do need help getting back into a job and I’ve been wearing gym clothes, hoodies, leggings and sloppy oversized tees in there. I don’t think they are that bothered. However they might just ask you if you do actually have smart clothes prepared for any interviews you have and may want to see them eventually. But they haven’t asked me personally yet. Hope this helps  :update, I just realised this was 8 years ago, but I hope this helps any new comers
