I have thought about leaving, especially since i'm not a medic. But we shall see...
this says more about me than everyone else but i just dont get how people CAN leave.
i come on here SO much and i really care about all the others who post here - like i consider all of you to be friends maybe not in the same way as my rl friends but still.
i dont get how you can just leave.
there would be a big empty space in my life!

I too care about the people who post here, especially those who helped me through the whole gay thing, and I would still be able to talk to them outside tsr. i.e. skype, facebook, msn.

But yeah, maybe i'll stay, will have to see how busy I am at uni (though i'll always keep in touch with you, dw)

FFS, i really don't know what to do now. i missed my offer this year, requested remarks and scripts back. i have realised that the exam board haven't even bothered to mark one of papers again so i showed the head at school and all my teachers who are in agreement with me. now my school are launching an investigation into it to see why my paper was not remarked (this scenario has happened before and 2 othre people are in the same position) and the medical school have no idea what to do with me. one minute they're rejecting me and telling me to reapply and i'll be guaranteed an interview, next minute they're telling me to go through grad entry and then they're telling me i can start in 2010 if i can prove the dodgy results and the exam board's blunder. but on friday when i phoned them they said even if i get my grades after the appeal i may not be allowed to start in 2010 because they have to reassess my situation at that time. wtf? i swear i feel like giving up and not going to uni now. i cant be bothered with this ****.

:p: I may see it one day, I donno when it would be though

Cool, I may try to watch it, but may end up going to bed as I've had a long day... Been up since 7am (earliest I've seen in a long time) and been paint balling which was completely knackering and bruising :p:

If I miss it, I may have to find it online :ninja:
I ended up just recording both of them as I felt I was too knackered to give it the attention it deserved. If I manage to sort everything out I've got to do today and have a spare couple of hours I may watch it this afternoon. :awesome:

haha if I would have lots of money one day I may consider getting one :p:

Awesome, i will keep that in mind :yep:

I don't remember most of the Bond films, it's been far too long since I've seen them :p:

QoS was completely action orientated if I recall correctly, I couldn't follow the story line at all and it was just all explosions :erm: Maybe that was because it was supposed to continue on from Casino Royale and I hadn't seen since I saw it in the cinema when it came out. It could very well be that Casino Royale itself set the standards so high it made QoS a let down
You should, they're well worth the investment. Once you've spent a bit of time with one you'll wonder how you could ever go back to a clunky old Windows leviathan.

Most of the Bond films are pretty dire, in fairness. The only old one I'd say is a classic in it's own right is from Russia with Love, and that's just awesome. Goldfinger was alright, and a couple of others, but mostly they're just shocking - in particular the Roger Moore ones. He plays the character as this funny man with one-liners and quips, but the producers decided he wasn't dangerous enough so they just shoehorn in some peculiar scenes of him snapping people's necks, which really doesn't work. And Moonraker remains to this day the worst film I have ever watched.

The first time I watched QoS in the cinema I came out thinking it was terrible. But I watched it again recently and it's not all that bad. The plot is a bit flimsy, but the action works pretty well and there are some pretty tense scenes (although nothing that could match the sheer brilliance of the torture scene in Casino Royale). It's not a classic by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not dreadful.

Indeed, but I'll have at least a couple of people I'll know :awesome: One of which is a friend of mine from this area She is also living in the same flat as me :p:
That's cool, at least you'll start knowing someone.

I'm sure you won't be outshone by another student From what I've seen you seem to be a very intelligent and witty guy You can't fall short of any other intelligent Oxford person if at all I don't think highly of you at all :p:
    Aw, thanks.

    Discount? :eek3: how much? :p:

Free iPod Touch? :eek3: :eek3: :eek3: I really want a new iPod
I think I got around £200 knocked off my laptop, and a free Touch. Not to mention something like 75% off Applecare. Apple have some amazing discounts for students, it's very good.

No, but you were "Partially serious", which is just a way of saying "I was completely serious, but i dont want people to think I am".
Aye, it's very annoying when people say that, just like people who make out they were joking when they quite clearly weren't, or those who post something ridiculously nonsensical/controversial and then say "I don't want to start discussing it now".

    (Original post by normalothercitrusfruit)
Are you guys taking a proper laptop case, or a bag with a laptop compartment?

I can't decide which to go for
Get a Crumpler bag. They are very possibly the coolest bags ever designed.

They're pricey though, I'm having to save up for one.

How did you get into writing for the newspaper? i.e. how did you get that job?
Well, i'd worked in journalism while a medical student - writing copy for advertising companies, magazine articles, etc, just to make money. then just before i graduated i wrote 3 sample columns and sent them to the daily telegraph, and amazingly, they employed me. have since learnt that i was incredibly lucky as they have hundreds of people writing to them every week and this is not the usual way people go about getting a column! ... here is an article i wrote describing it in a bit more detail:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/feat...thout-you.html

and here is a bit about my new book...

Hello! hahaha, thanks for your comments (my hair does not look like a meringue, thank you very much!!! And of all the photographs out there why did you pick that one to post - i loathe that picture - i'd just done an on call and look like i've died)- sorry, haven't posted on here in a while as have been busy with promo for my latest book but do read stuff on the medical threads to see what's happening with medical schools etc. When does medical school start? not till the end of the month isn't it?
It wasn't me in Leeds - never been there before. I was in Sheffield giving a talk a month or so ago, but that's about as far north as i've been for ages. I'm in nottingham giving a talk to the medical school on the 29th of September and if you're in london i'm doing one at the royal college of psych on the 22nd, you can get tickets for it from the RCPsych website i think... maybe see some of you there - come up and say hi afterwards.
hope you've all been having a good summer holiday

HE'S BACK!!! How did i miss your return??

Yep med school starts at the end of the month - i cannot wait. and i love that photo i posted :p: i may attend talk on the 22nd although im not so sure psych is my thing, alhtough quite a few friends are interested in it after reading trust me. i know i definitely want to go into surgery and i want something pretty hands on. when is the third book out then?

Where did you get those from? :holmes:
Wilkinsons. It was this oriental range, with square mugs, bowls and plates (in a range of colours, I went for chocolate brown). They're awesome, and pretty cheap as well - I think it was about £1.50 for each item.

What is the normal route to getting a column, out of curiosity?

I would have assumed it would be through either working your way up through the newspaper, or being approached directly?
