Currently my laptop is running on a brand new 1 GB ram as well as a (old) 512 (?) MB ram memory stick. Now on Crucial they are telling me that the maximum allowance is 2GB. However, it is possible to go up to 3GB anyway? My OS is a 32 bit XP (I hate Vista)...

    Thanks In Advance

Your OS would support it however if it's saying it ain't possible then I guess it isn't?

Crucial would be telling you the maximum your board will accept, as specific by the manufacturer. It probably won't function (well) > 2GB.

Crucial judges by the make of your motherboard, not just your OS. How old is your laptop?

That would be the last word in terms of confirmation on the 2GB being the MAX... Woudn't it?

    Yes.

Also, RAM retailers would quite like you to buy as much RAM as possible, so I think Crucial is a pretty solid source too.
