Basically I've had a bit of a "food problem" on and off for the last three years, by which I mean I make myself sick. I've pretty much stopped it completely now, and the last time was over a month ago. I also started smoking again a few months ago, and ever since then, my throat feels so sore. It's on and off pain, but when it hurts it feels like something has ripped inside my throat.
I'm quite aware this isn't normal, and the smartest thing would probably be to quit smoking, so as a sort of test, I haven't had a cig in a few days, but my throat STILL keeps hurting.
Do you think I've messed it up by being so stupid with food? Or is it just the start of a cold or flu or something? I don't really want to go to the doctor because I don't ever really want to admit to having a problem with food, especially now I'm over it.

It's most likely to do with the "sickness", you need to see a doctor.

I know you may not want to talk to your doctor about this, but it's really important you do get this checked out - just as it's important you get anything to do with your health checked out. Just be straight with your doctor - they're unlikely to be surprised or judgemental because they really do see lots of people who have or have had these kinds of problems.
Also, really well done for having come so far in overcoming your problem. It can't have been easy, and I know it must be horrible to have it hanging over your head in this way, but you've clearly been very strong to come this far.
