Wasnt sure whether to put this in Student Accommodation or Money and Finance so mods please move if you think it appropriate

Right so moving into a shared house in September and theres 5 of us altogether. Our rent includes bills so the only bill we'll be paying ourselves is the internet (plus phone and sky if we decide we want a complete package).

I'm very hesitant to set up a joint account as I know it can affect credit ratings and it seems alot of effort for only one bill. But on the other hand, the only other method I can see is for the bill to be in one persons name and that person having to pay it from their account and then get the money off the others. This doesnt really seem ideal either as it'll involve pestering for money every month and its not really fair on that one person (I imagine it will end up being me, as it'll probably be me who ends up sorting out all the internet stuff). Also because its a 12 month contract I imagine it would be harder getting the money off everyone in the summer and its not like the others will really have an incentive to pay because its not like they'll have other bills in their name.

Is there another way around this? Would it be possible to have all 5 names on the internet bill but not actually linked to one persons account?

    Thanks

No, that's just how it is. I'd be surprised if you could put 5 people's names on the internet bill anyway. I can't see it working out that much each, perhaps you could just ask them to pay for a whole quarter up front rather than chasing them each month? (Since say £15 a month would only be £3 each split 5 ways...)

Why don't you set up the bill from your account but then set up a direct debit into your account from the other 4 people's accounts? That way if the bill is £50 and is payable on the 30th of a month then £10 gets debited from each of the other four people's accounts say on the 25th and that way you don't have to chase them around for it because it's automatically in your account.

Work out the cost for the 12 months then divide by how many months you will be there for then that way you can pay if off without worrying about collecting the money in the summer.

Sky and services (gas, electric etc) won't allow multiple accts. Most thy'll allow is an acct in 2 names.

most of our sevices has all our names or most of them on the account theres six of us in the house, so the problem in my case is, we decided not to have a joint account instead i had an account i wasnt using and we chose to use that, problem is getting money off people, so if you are going to do it through one account set a direct debit up, worst mistake ever not doing that !
