I am currently a radiography student in Bangor uni, I hate being so far away from home and I want to transfer to Cardiff. I am just finishing my first year!
Does anybody know how transfers work? Or if I'll even be able to have a transfer as I have basically finished my first year and second year starts in September?

First step is to phone Cardiff and see if they'll accept you into their second year of study. This is generally quite unlikely, but it can happen.

Second step, assuming they want you, is to fill out UCAS again and apply formally. They may just accept your transcript and do it all internally if you're lucky.

To be honest, you've left it pretty damn late. I applied to transfer this year and I had my UCAS sent off back in December. I'm not sure if you've already missed the boat.

But yeah, get on the phone to Cardiff right now and ask them.

Really? Arghh I'm so annoyed at myself, I have been unhappy about being so far away from home for a while now, I should've done it sooner . The only thing that was putting me off was because of the friends I have made at uni, but I know I will be so much happier being close to home .
I have had to send an email as I can't phone right now. I hope I can still get one...

I know it is probably pointless me asking this as they will probably say no to the transfer straight away anyway, but do they look at your A level grades? As when I was applying last year, I wanted to go to Cardiff. I received an offer but I didn't think I would make the grade (they wanted a B in Biology - I got a D) so I didn't put them as my firm or my insurance.

Generally, yes. At my university, you can ask your personal tutor to contact the university on your behalf to arrange an informal interview. They may request to see samples of your work or the transcript from your first year of study. You would then need to apply through UCAS, but as the deadline has already passed, I suspect you will only be able to transfer this year if it can be dealt with internally been instiutions. Alternatively, you could return home and take a gap-year.
