ive done edexcel re this year and these are the books we have used http://www.hoddereducation.co.uk/Tit...th_Edition.htm (this is an old edition book which i used but there are more new ones) and http://www.whsmith.co.uk/CatalogAndS...340975510.html. You have to study 2 religions including Christianity.

You can purchase the revision guides which accompany these books as the notes are easier 2 understand and less 2 remember.

Those textbooks are all you need. But, frankly, I'd recommend solely buying the revision guides, because those are all I used and I got an A*. The textbooks are just filler for class time!

    I did

    Christianity/Islam in Year 10

Then Christianity solely in Year 11

As above, revision guides all you need.

You do know the majority of GCSEs are changing next term?

So, I wouldn't bother buying any books, and ask your teacher in September if you really want to get hold of the correct textbooks (because you wouldn't want to waste money on the wrong textbooks).

I did Edexcel last year and never learned about any other religions.
I did Paper J in year 10, and Paper C in year 11.

I believe they were about Catholic Christianity.

I said the majority of GCSEs. I do apologise though, as I forgot to mention I was specifically talking for Edexcel.

    However:

New Edexcel GCSEs from 2009 - including science and RE

New GCSEs from 2010 - maths, english and ICT

    Yeh, one sec

I used this for Year 11
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Catholic-Chr.../dp/034093977X

And this one for year 10
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Religion-Lif...ef=pd_sim_b_16

They are really fantastic for revision, easy, clear stages and key words that you have to learn set out. Model answers and practice questions.

But some Schools don't always do the same things. I'll assume you do christianity so my year 10 one was for Christianity/Islam but Some schools do Buddism or Judiasm. Reply back if you have any questions.

Er.. both of those are SO limited. They barely cover the different boards for the core subjects, let alone Edexcel RS...

You will have to do Christianity, though, that is for certain.

I think only Christian/State schools do.

Hmm, are you sure? Because I'm pretty certain that Edexcel has made it so that everybody studies Christianity and one other religion (I gathered this from the revision guide)...

Ah, this from the specification: 'Students are required to base their studies on Christianity and at least
ONE, but no more than TWO, of the following religions: Buddhism,
Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism. However, Section 1 is based on a
    study of one religion only.'

Edit: interestingly, as someone mentioned before, Edexcel RS HAS indeed changed for '09: http://www.edexcel.com/migrationdocu...20-%20Spec.pdf. I am not sure what this entails for you, OP, but I gather there would necessarily be new textbooks and revision guides released?

...Having looked thoroughly, there are differences in the specification. The exam is shorter amongst this! (now 1 and a 1/2 hours). They have deleted some of the content from before and replaced it with more 'modern' material. It seems very media-orientated - a 'new look'. But actually, overall, the structure and content is very similar. Anyway, if you look here: http://www.pearsonschoolsandfecolleg...9/Buy/Buy.aspx there are a collection of books which are intended for teachers. Thing is, there are so many 'student books', it's really confusing. I haven't come across any revision guides, yet, either - maybe the old ones will still be used?

Okay, best bet - ask your RE department!

And for interest, here's a thread with teachers talking about the resources (or lack of, mainly): http://community.tes.co.uk/forums/t/...px?PageIndex=1

Oh, and finally, both the reason for the shorter exams AND for the more media-orientation is because the 'religion and media' unit has been scrapped as it was in it's own right and mixed into other units (5 units before, now 4).

I'm not too sure, i think Edexcel offer an RS GCSE without Christianity because I have a jewish mate who is doing Judiasm/Islam on Edexcel maybe it snot the same spec.
