Austria thanks China and welcomes their most valid point. We see no reason why we should be attacked, while not having any weapons of great power and being a small neutral country Austria still does have an army and air force. We would probably call on help from NATO or other allies if attacked.
The problem there is the amount of damage that could be done before other nations are ready to step in. China considers the defense of her citizens to be of the utmost importance. As such if one nation has the ability to cripple our economy, we feel we need the same power so as to deter then from using their power now or in the future.

They Republic of Turkey however would also like to state that China's actions are only encouraging more nations to militarize themselves and this is how weapon proliferation occurs. Does China not feel that if its citizens were unfairly attacked, the UN would step in? By individually seeking new weapons, the Republic of Turkey feels that China is only distancing itself from friendly relations with other nations. Weapons are not always the answer. Peace talks and co-operation also lead to security.

And what will the other UN countries do against these weapons? Remember that only a few nations are able to create these arms. If they were used against any country the PRC would protect the attacked country, but if all the countries who had them were on the side of the aggressor, or were too afraid of these arms to interfere, the aggressor would be able to control the world. China feels that these arms are vile and evil, but the only way to stop them is to have them yourself. With the development of nuclear arms military tactics entered a new age. Any nation who develops them has the power to almost completely destroy another nation. The only defense is to have the power to do it back. Its a sad state of affairs the world finds itself in with such weapons, but it is the way things are now. For any one nation to have these arms would be terrible. The more stable nations who have them the saffer the world will be from them.

The Republic of Turkey disagrees with China's statements. Preventing these weapons from being used does not require more weapons. What about peace talks? If a nation uses these weapons, the UN could use peacekeeping forces and, if necessary, sanctions to punish them.

The Republic of Turkey would also like to point out that if all nations acted the way China does (and most of them do) than this will only mean that they will find new ways of attacking each other and invent new destructive weapons. Once this happens, an arms race occurs, resulting in the wastage of billions of dollars worth of money (for research and production of weapons). Shouldn't this money be utilized for more productive tasks?

I think you misunderstand the power of these weapons. They can cripple a nation. Yes, if used other nations could put sanctions on them. We dont think this would work as they would think they have got away with it, but even if it did work, one nation has already been cripples over it. That is not acceptable.

We agree. It is unfortunate. But while one nation has weapons like this all nations must have them (ar allies with them) to be safe. It is very unfortunate, but it is the was of arms these days and there is no advance in missile defense to stop its advance yet.

Ideally defense technology keeps up with offense technology. But with weapons like nuclear arms and now these that can't be stopped with defense technology, defense has become synonymous with offense.
