The following are published sample questions from the Civil Service Curriculum that my mum got hold of today. See how you get on:
1) In 27,649,135 inches, how many miles, furlongs, pole &c.?
2) If £8 17s 3/1/2d be the proce of 37 yards of cloth, how many yards of the same material may be purchased for £13 13s 1/1/2d.?
And if that wasn't hard enough...how's about the following for political incorrectness?
The received returns from the superintendent registrar districts for Liverpool, Wigan, Chorlton and Manchester were as follows:
Idiots and imbeciles: 89, 156, 123, 443
Lunatics: 55, 21, 140, 1042
(You are then challenged to work out the proportion of the population they make up).
What about history?
Give a brief account of the Bretwaldas
Explain Duke, Earl, Count, Mayor, Sherriff, Alderman and Chancery. To which of these people who have established themselves in Britain may they be traced.
State with reasons what you consider to be the true purpose of the study of English History; and describe broady the lines in which you consider that study should be conducted
Write a short account of Greece, giving some account of the groups of islands comprised in the kingdom
Draw a sketch map of the German and Austrian Empires, and mark on it the following places:- Hamburg, Toeplitz, Trieste, Freiburg, Fulda, Presburg, Kiel, Colmar, Innspruck, Leipsic.
