    lol

To be honest, there's no more nutters on the internet as you are likely to find on the average street. Most people have a computer these days in this country so by and large you get a similar spread of personalities.
Okay JC I want your thoughts on this..

If you met someone in person, didn't talk to them much... would you feel intimidated meeting them again?

    as opposed to

If you meet them online, talk to them 1 year plus ... would you feel intimidated meeting them?

One you know "better" the other not so much, the only difference is that you have met the other before..

Yes I have, and they were a lot the same, because I talked on msn, on the phone, texted etc.

One was a friend of someone else I know, and another I'd seen around, and it was just coincidence that we ended up meeting online.

I met my boyfriend on the internet, been with him 5 years. He was exactly as expected. I have a few online friends who are really close to me, hoping to meet maybe one or two of them soon but they are in Scotland, bit far out for me !

Well, in the first example, you are only meeting the person twice. Admittedly in the flesh.

If, however, you talk to someone everyday on msn for a year and then go and meet up somewhere I suppose it's far less intimidating on the basis that you have "met them intelectually" every day for a year so you'll get a deeper understanding of their personality.

There's no substitute for doing things with people in person, but I think the internet is a great way to keep in contact with people whom you are too far away from to otherwise have regular contact with.

From a personal point of view, I only actually use MSN to keep in contact with one person. Everybody else I seem to manage with the phone, going out, car shows, race meets, emails etc...

It's kind of relieving to see that so many people are in relationships due to meeting someone online. It's how I did it - and we've maintained a long distance relationship across the Atlantic for going on 3 years now. We've been able to visit each other once ever 4 months or so, luckily. When I get over to uni, we'll finally be together. :]

But I knew him for about 9 months before he came over. My dad was with me because he was convinced that he was some kind of creepy stalker. :P We ended up nervously taking a turn round a coffee shop and sitting on a bench outside. Eventually he pulled me over to him and everything has been good since....

I met someone off the internet a year or so ago and she was exactly as I expected which was surprisingly nice. Not really spoke to her in a while though.

Someone else on the other hand was a guy who added my myspace (back when we all had one) moving to this country from mexico for a post grad psychology course and wanted some advice on where to live and stuff. I met him last week and it turned out he was a complete weirdo who tried to sign me up to be on some porn site he has something to do with so I did a runner and shan't be in contact with him anymore!

They were exactly like I thought they'd be. Although, funnily enough, they made me realise I wasn't like the person I thought I was, but exponentially more awkward, unfunnier, and generally **** company.

    yep, my boyfriend (going out for 13 months);
we'd been talking for 9 months before, i brought my friends over to where he lived for a holiday and met up with him. He was pretty much exactly what I expected, a little bit less outgoing than online, but that's about it. depends how well you know them though; I'd spoken to some of his friends online, too, seen a lot of pictures, of him and his friends etc on bebo, and spoke to him practically every day through those nine months.. i wouldn't have met him if i didn't think it was safe.

Yeah. I used to play PC games a fair bit during college and met up with friends from there for BBQs, cinema, etc. Went to a TSR meet once in Manchester, so I've met a fair number of the active posters on this forum :p:
