hey guys, a little about me to make it clearer about my situation!

    I'm 18

left school at 16 with 9 successful GCSEs

worked since then, as well as trying new hobbies etc.

Leeds met is the uni i want to go to, because of applying late, I'm automatically entered into clearing.

The Leeds met Website says.."If you've been out of education for a long time, or if you have few or no formal qualifications, don't worry. You may be able to take advantage of our flexible approach to entry.
If you're in this position, you may consider putting together a 'portfolio of achievement' containing open references, proof of attendance for work-based courses and other information in support of your application. This portfolio can then be brought to interview for discussion.
    "

I'm in the process of putting together a portfolio. They mention interviews, because I've applied late, how do i arrange this? or do i wait till i apply for a vacancy in clearing?

also accommodation, with clearing, do i apply for it now and just reject if i don't get in?

and student loans etc, is there a date all this needs completed by?

Is there anyone on here whos put together a portfolio and got in through clearing?

Sorry about so many questions, but your answers will really put my mind at ease!

    Thank you, Siobhan

Contact the uni and ask them. You won't apply for accommodation yet, but you'll need to find out how they allocate it for Clearing students. You would apply through Clearing, and then they would invite you to interview (or reject you immediately) based on that. However, usually they're only more lenient with qualifications for mature students, which is classed as over 21.

I think you should talk to the uni as a matter of urgency because as Juno points out, at 18 a uni would generally expect you to have standard entry qualifications. My suspicion is that the uni will probably recommend that you consider doing an Access course of some kind first. I would not do too much work on the portfolio until you have had this conversation with the uni.

if you don't mind me asking, what kind of course are you trying to apply for? although uni's are generally more lax with qualifications when you're 21+ (even then it still depends on past experiences), they'll still consider you depending on the actual course type, the subject, your working history, your interest in the chosen subject and even what things you studied at GCSE level.

    What did they say?
I'm quite interested in this too, but I presumed I'd be too young (I'm 18)

i rang the unis. leeds met say they dont think there gunna go into clearing, basicly because loads of there courses are full. was so gutted as i love leeds!

i rang manchester and found the guy on the phone quite harsh about my situation, i explained how i didnt have a levels etc and he just didnt think i should get a chance at uni without them. so even though they have places its put me off a bit!

Both places have pretty much said they will consider me if there is spaces on results day. Whether I'd get in or not I don't know, but they know I'm interested at least...

I've encountered some quite rude people too, maybe you should phone back and try someone else? I've done that and the lady I got was lovely.
