My throat

Over the past year, I used to get this problem (and I still do) where I found It VERY difficult to breathe normally through my mouth. I used to feel as if something was blocking my airways/ somebody strangling me! Anyways so off I went to the doctors and he told me I was eating too fast and that I should take some Gaviscon to help with any indigestion I had!! Grrr...I never eat fast! But anyways Gaviscon obviously didn't work and strangely what I discovered was, was that during exam periods or whenever I felt really worried/anxious my throat used to 'lock up' and I used to find it VERY difficult to breathe. Drinking water helped a lot but why does this happen in the first place? I've been stressed before and only recently have I been feeling like this! :frown: It evens occurs when I'm subconciously anxious...wierd, I know... anyone been like this?

hmmm that sounds very odd. was it harder to breathe in or out? possibly an unusual presentation of asthma..?

The only other thing it sounds like is a bit of a gluey epiglottis. are these episodes associated with a sore throat? have you ever had problems with throat infections or abcesses? Could also be some form of bronchospasm or a collapsing trachea, but im not sure how severe and acute onset these would give. its the 'induced by stress' that inrigues me. is it induced any other time like exercise? does it occur when you are in any particular posture? ever happen when ur sleeping..?

sounds like very mild anxiety or panic attacks. You really should see another G.P.

It only happens during times of stress, exams and general worry. I can feel it a bit now but It's not as bad. It's been so bad that once in front my computer I believe I completely 'blanked out' for a second as I didn't breathe in when I should have. Breathing generally is difficult, in or out...:frown: And it doesn't occur after sore throats etc...

I'll probably go back and tell him what I think it is, If he tells me it's nothing to worry about then somebody here can recommend me one!
