is there a noticable difference between black metallic and non metallic paint on cars? (on a vw golf if that makes a difference)

er yeah!

One is like glass and the other has shiny bits of metal under the lacquer.

I'm not a fan of metalic colours.

Same here, much harder to touch over metallic paint too. I like either flat greens/greys/khakis on older 4x4s or if it has to be polished up then a nice deep red. Oh god deep red.

yeah, it has little silver bits in metallic paint... although my car is classed as 'pearlescent', i think it's the same kind of thing.
