39 is about a A-

But I don't think you calculate GPA that way.

STudents with IB courses have weighted GPA (WGPA). It's as the following:
A* = 4.5 + 1.0 = 5.5
A+ = 4.3 + 1.0 = 5.3
A = 4.0 + 1.0 = 5.0
A- = 3.7 + 1.0 = 4.7
...and so on...

This is just my school's scale. Other schools have different scales.

I think in Canada, in some secondary schools, the boundary for IB grades is as the following:

If you get, say, from 96-100, then you'll be predicted a 7
90-95, a 6.
so on...

Percentage used to predict your IB grades can vary from school to school. At my school, if you get an A+ or A*, then you'll be predicted a 7. An A- or A will be 6, or 7 in some rare cases, and so on.

Is this what you asked? Or I may have been confused by your vague question.

hey "Ib the great", thanks for your help.
sorry, but i meant to say that on an American Scale, what would the GPA for 6 subjects in the IB, 3 7s in the HL subjects, and 3 6s in the SL subjects, be on a scale of 0.0-4.0? I need to know because many websites for college ask for a "cumulative" GPA, and I thought there was a conversion - a 7 means a 4.0, a 6 means a 3.5, a 5 means a 3.0, and so on; apparently you're supposed to take the average of 6 subjects and then submit it. But, i'm not sure if it's right. so i wanted to know if you had possibly more accurate/first-hand knowledge.

In America, your GPA has nothing to do with your IB scores. In all the schools I have seen, GPA is simply based on your grades for the class (A-F). However, some schools (like mine) give additional weight to IB classes.

For instance, an A is typically 4.0, but if its an IB class, it may be 5.0.
a B is 3.0, but for an IB class, may be 4.0 and so on.

I am applying to college in a few months, and when they mean your cumulative GPA, it is the GPA average of all the classes you have taken. However, the college will most likely ask for your predicted grades.

Hope this helps...

There is not a required GPA for the IB, at least not at my school. They do recomend that you have a 3.6 or higher thought. They other thing is at my school they do not wait IB classes only AP classes, These are sometimes the same like with language by not always. An A in my IB history class is still worth a 4.0 but a A in my AP/IB Spanish class is worth 5.0 Diffrent schools do it diffrently. Remember GPA is just the adverage of the grades you have gotten in all your classes.
