Being a feminist is about believing that all genders deserve equal opportunity. Period.

"People call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that distinguish me from a doormat." -- Rebecca West.

"Men, their rights, and nothing more; women, their rights, and nothing less." Susan B. Anthony

A feminist is a person who answers "yes" to the question, "Are women human?" Feminism is not about whether women are better than, worse than or identical with men. And it's certainly not about trading personal liberty - abortion, divorce, sexual self-expression - for social protection as wives and mothers, as pro-life feminists propose. It's about justice, fairness, and access to the broad range of human experience. It's about women consulting their own well-being and being judged as individuals rather than as members of a class with one personality, one social function, one road to happiness. It's about women having intrinsic value as persons rather than contingent value as a means to an end for others: fetuses, children, the "family," men. (Katha Pollitt)

Men alienating and radicalising a view that destroys patriarchical society and therefore male dominance in the home, workplace, etc? WELL I NEVER

I dont think youre in a position to tell me to shut up. If someone gave me a constructive answer, I might listen. But most people here seem to make generalisations and assume that all feminists act like men and that we all hate them and want to take over the world. What nonsense.
I think it's the internet and I can tell ANYONE to shut up with my super anonymity ^_^ lulz

But what kind of answer could be "constructive" here? You don't have a problem that needs solving (at least you haven't come here asking for help solving one)

And it's not SUCH a generalization. The main proponents of feminism, who declare themselves feminists every chance they get, are the ones who act like this. So we base our opinions on them. It's the loudest people that get the most attention.

I'm no worse than you are when you say that i am an angry baboon. Im not an extremist, i just get angry at some of the misconceptions people have about feminism.

Oh no you're no the angry baboon the angry baboon is a metaphor for how you typed your profile that made it forceful and pretty much hard edged.

I might also say that even the name of this thread is agressive why cant MEN ACCEPT it? We do you just don't want us to. I don't see the point in any men arguing in here when you're just expecting us to ask you to come back to our rooms for a quikie

Find me an actual female who thinks that the average woman is as physically strong as the average man.
It's not so much that, some say that the "difference" is a social construct which dissuades women from pursuing physical excellence as much as men... Women have the same potential but are heavily discouraged from trying to reach it...

Off the top of my head from when i last looked it up I thinkkkk Carol Tavris subscribed to either that view or a similar one...

So you think that women should fight as frontline infantry, carry the same weight, and possibly fight hand to hand. You think that female athletes should compete directly with male ones?

I assume you never look for special treatment either, be it the excuse of "women's problems", being treated preferentially due to your gender, or getting free drinks (assuming you go out).

How about car insurance, do you agree that men and women should pay the same premiums?

No? Then you're just a sexist.

God, I couldn't help laughing when I read that. Equal rights isn't about carrying weights or going to war, for chrissake, get a grip.
And actually, I don't see why female tennis players can't play with male ones. Theyre just as good.

"One sometimes gets the impression that the mere words 'Socialism' and 'Communism' draw towards them with magnetic force evert fruit-juice drinker, nudist, sandal-wearer, sex-maniac, Quaker, 'Nature Cure' quack, pacifist, and feminist in England. One day this summer I was riding through Letchworth when the bus stopped and two dreadful-looking old men got onto it... They were dressed in pistachio-coloured shirts and khaki shorts into which their huge bottoms were crammed so tightly that you could study every dimple. Their appearance caused a mild stir of horror on top of the bus. The man next to me...glanced at me, at them, and back again at me and murmured 'Socialists'".

Same logic. Though I find the very concept of feminism unnatural.

there are far more aggressive threads in this forum, such as "feminists can suck my ****", but for some unknown reason, mine are the ones on which more personal insults are posted.

Is it because they are affraid that one day we will have equal rights and maybe even outsmart them in the workplace?

oh great a feminism thread this can only go one way

most men are for equal rights, be it at home or in the work place, equal pay, equal chance of getting a job, equal everything
i agree with feminism when they push for equal rights across everything, there are still a few men's only clubs, which well in this day and age, its wrong

what i don't like all this man hating side of feminism few said men cannot be feminists simply because they are not women, but overs agree that men can, and struggle against sexism

times are changing, most men agree to women's rights and that they are equal, shame that the old club of men who don't still run places, why women get underpaid, or not even haired for a job cos they may have a baby

What is it about then? You've ignored the points you find uncomfortable, and really, you think that if tennis tournaments were mixed that any women would get near the final? How about the other sports?

Having the same rights means the same responsibilities, and they were just asking if you were prepared to deal with that.

And NOPE! I happen to be a tennis enthusiast and watch the pros play... the women just aren't as good as the men! Men are naturally more agile and strong, Federer could run circles around Serena Williams! I'm not saying I could beat Serena, but on average men are better than the women, and the men also have more potential.

Really, the female players ARE allowed to play with the male ones... they just can't cut it. The women aren't good enough to keep up with the men (despite being pretty amazing at the sport :O) so they created a league for only women so that women could play professionally. :P

your post is so agressive. if people genuinely want equality of opportunity, then that's what they need to talk about.

when you go on and on about women's rights and not sexual equality, of course some men are going to be threatened. language is super important. 'feminism' says it all really.
wtf? didnt you create a thread earlier that stated you disliked feminist? That was way more aggressive.

Its cause feminists are so eager to go on about how hard they get it, a mean one feminist on yahoo answers was going on about how in war woman suffer more. wtf?

Everyone suffers in a war, but she wants to gender specify the thing.

if anything men suffer more from a war obv. ..yea women have to be at home worryin an grieving, but it the men that are actually there experiancing it.

anyway yea that feminist pissed me off ..i wanted to clasp her eyes open an make her stare at a penis (maybe even my own) for 12hrs straight ..just to see what would happen
Maybe "experiancing" it is easier to deal with in some ways? You can't say "men suffer more from a war" any more than you can say women suffer more.

Why must we fight for either gender? Why must power be skewed towards one specifically? What ultimately is the point? Men and Women aren't a different group of people, despite what we often seem to think, we are just different sides of the same coin.

Because most 'feminists' aren't feminists, and 'feminists' do feminists a disservice.

I was just wondering why men regard feminism as negative?
Because feminists are like you: rude and offensive.

I'll start supporting feminism when feminists start campaigning for men to be able to join car insurance companies with cheaper rates, and catchy theme songs in their adverts.

I just want to make it clear she's not trolling. I've read her posts, I can see her point of view.
A lot of people however have made very constructive points that really tackle the question despite the generalisations made by you.

Eva2, you know I'm not trying to just piss you off, you know I take you seriously, you need to take a step back, and read peoples posts without that danger red tint over your eyes. You are doing it. I think you should apologise to a few people for picking a fight, regardless to if they apologise to you for anything offensive they might have said. You've started a fight, and you've been rude to people making constructive posts. Frankly I'm disappointed in you.
