My view as an economics student, shared by the vast majority of fellow students i know, is that the overwhelming majority of socialists are totally economically uneducated and most people tend to become more capitalist the more they learn about economics. So, sorry but i honestly think that, although they might not be thick, the majority of socialists, when it comes to economics, are totally flawed
Because neoliberal economics has worked out so well =/ TBH the more I learn about orthodox economics the more I think it's ********.

BTW, people saying capitalism rewards hard work, notice that the biggest and best advocates of capitalism and free markets almost never use the argument from desert, mostly because it's not true...

Socialist. Capitalism's emphasis on accumulation, consumption and economic growth are, ultimately, unsustainable, even setting aside the structural advantages/disadvantages it generates through patterns of capital and land distribution. The various problems of capitalism are largely being masked (in the west at least) by state redistribution and welfare provision, take these away and things won't look so rosy at all.

Anyway, I believe in strong social-centric government with a broadly capitalist economic system.

I agree. Nice critique of government intervention into the free market there.

Socialist. This recession is merely the consequence of the nature of the capitalist system, give it a few more decades and we'll have another one on our hands. And to everyone who honestly believes that mere hard work is going to help you succeed in life; imagine being the abused, isolated orphan somewhere in Africa, even if they're a genius they're not going to get out of there just by studying and doing well in school, if they even go to school.

if anything, the money sent to the banks is more socialist than capitalist....if you;re a traditional capitalist that is. government intervention in markets is as socialist as you can get

simple question i'm sure. Are you a poverty creator or a wealth creator?

I'm a capitalist. A real liberal not like the crap namby pamby imitations we have today who mistook liberalism for populism. IMO socialists are outright idiots and almost always peasants.
I wouldn't have guessed that from the first statement in bold...

Not really because there wouldn't be markets in socialism and there would be no private banking groups to bail out. Only capitalism could have a system so absurd that the institutions which control the flow of capital - ie the most important commodity in a capitalist society - would through the following of the profit motive near on destroy themselves. If the government hadn't bailed out the banks then we wouldn't have capitalism anymore as there wouldn't be any banks to look after anyone's money.
