Tired ALL the time

You may remember me moaning about waking up and still being tired, and having a headache...

Well it seems I'm tired ALL the time. I've taken 12 (yes 12, I know it's unhealthy) proplus today. And I want to fall asleep forever. I'm going to the doctor's asap - stupid system means I have to phone at 8:30am and try to get an appointment tomorrow. I seriously feel like I'm going to die.

And I've just read an article on HIV and now I'm convinced I've got it :frown: Yes, I really do feel that awful. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with me?

Stupid stupid doctors I want to know what's wrong now :frown: :frown: :frown:

Sweetie, IM tired 24/7 too. Its all cos of too much stress, and too little relaxing.
You haven't got HIV. What possibly makes you think that? bear in mind how many years it takes to knock ur white cell count really low, so unless you think u are suffering the primary illness (iue that you were infected in last month and now have flu like symptoms) then notta chance

its dangerous to read up on symptoms some times. i spent the whole of monday wondering if i was suffering paranoid delusions...

Have you had your iron tested before?

i used to be severely anaemic. i'm going to get a blood test asap. i'm so paranoid in case something is wrong with me and i'm going to die.

what are symptoms of the flu?

If youre anaemic then that probably explains your symptoms, dont panic! I was feeling really tired after I had mumps, but not that extreme I dont think, taking echanacia (sp?) (you can get it from health shops) really helped.

how long have you been really tired for? flu can throw up lots of things (high temp, muscle pains, cough, runny rose, headaches..) but they symptoms usually lift after 2/3 weeks.
I get very tired because Im a strict vegetarian and my iron levels are horendous, and Im compltely dependant on pro plus, but maybe that's contributing to your tiredness, a sort of dependance on it, so that when you dont take it you feel even more tired? Also, be careful abound the amount of pro plus you take, when they sell it ridiculously cheaply in packs of 98, it's really easy to swallow a couple down every hour, but speaking from experience the side effects of it can be pretty horrible (vomiting up blood, fainting, heart problems etc etc) so go easy on it!

vomiting blood  you took so many you managed to give youself an ulcer?
Glandular fever could be a possibility. When I had similar symptoms - constant tiredness, horrible headaches, I was in bed at 3pm every day for a week and still felt horrendous - that was what my doctor thought I had. She sent me off for a blood test, which was negative. Apparently I just had 'weak immunity levels'. Hmm.

how long do the results of blood tests take to come back? i have exams in just over two weeks...
It could be a number of things I would guess, if you have a history of being 'severely anaemic' that well well may be the cause. Glandular fever, flu, ME could all be possibilities too, but it is not really worth speculating before you have had a blood test. If you have exams shortly it may well be stress related, and living on proplus isn't going to stop you feeling tired long term, are you eating well and getting enough sleep at night? If I were you I wouldn't panic, do you have any reason beyond paranoia and a few vaguely related symptoms to suspect you have HIV? You are right to get down the docs soon as poss, but it is probably something that can be sorted out easily, so don't worry!
If you're a vegetarian try going back to eating meat...I was feeling so tired I could barely get out of bed.I started eating meat 3 weeks ago and I feel and look so much better.

Iron tablets just don't have the same effect.

just over 2 weeks i should imagine, but at cam im sure that you can apply medical dispensation retrospectively, so if they came back pos you would give the med documents as proof to your tutor and get extra credit

i'm terrified i could have caught it off an ex or something. i guess it's very unlikely though! but i generally do think of the worst case scenario all the time. i've probably got anaemia again cos i don't eat well at all. is there any way of getting tests back quicker? *goes back to bed*

My blood test took less than a week to come back. I had mine taken on the Thursday and on the following Tuesday I got the results.

mmm, my only experience of GP ordered blood tests is at a countryside practice in the back end of nowhere so i should imagine it'd prob be quicker everwhere else.

i really wouldnt be worried...i had blood tests done as well when i was absolutely exhausted like you are, and they identified i had probably had some sort of previous infection that had gone away. So if you are tired, it's only a temporary thing. The most important thing is regularity in your day. Try to avoid naps if at all possible (around this time we all are...I slepped from 4 til 8:30 yesterday afternoon). Try to have a set bed time and stick to it, not too late mind you, try between 11 and 12 (earlier if you want). And get up at a set time as well, really force yourself up. And start the day with a good breakfast, I really found that helped loads - students rarely have time for a good breakfast, try and work it into your day!

Do you drink lots of caffine, like Pepsi or coffee?

That's what I do and I rarely sleep. I normally go to bed at 4am, sometimes 5am and wake up at 10am. If I have to be up early, I go bed at 2am and wake up at 7am. I feel like hell every morning (of course), but that normally goes after about 20 minutes of being awake.

I take lots of proplus. I took 12 yesterday and drank two pepsi max bottles and I still conked out. Maybe I just needed a good snooze.
