That list seems.. quite silly. A quick top ten I'd draw up is:
    1. Ireland
    2. Norway
    3. Canada
    4. Australia
    5. Japan
    6. Luxembourg
    7. Netherlands
    8. Australia
    9. Switzerland
    10. Finland

How is Britain below South Africa? We have much better health care, and it seems there is a lot more racial prejudice in South Africa.
Not sure about Israel either, but I don't know enough about modern-day Israel to judge

Britain refers to the island containing England, Scotland and Wales. The country we live in is the United Kingdom.

    I'd put Japan first.
Highest level of debt in the world. Some of the most restrictive citizenship laws. Higher levels of sexual and ethnic discrimination than the west. Ridiculously ineffective domestic markets. Low social mobility. Declining birthrates. Dying rural communities and agriculture industry. Practically no social welfare system.

Oh but it has nice cherry blossom though.

Taxes are even higher on the continent, if that is even possible.

It's still offers the most personal liberty in the world. I'm sorry, but it just does.

Plenty of land too; you can buy 20 acres in the some of the western states for the price of a new base-model Ford Focus in the UK
You can't just pick one aspect in which the UK is superior (biased opinion to be honest) in relation to any other european country and say it is a better place overall to live in.

I'm sorry but you just need to see this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_o..._Liberty_Index

Ohw that's just brilliant, did you ever wondered why those lands aren't currently inhabited so far? I can't see how that can be so important for a people's general happiness anyway.

Saying 'all european countries' is a bit pointless, when countries like germany and switzerland have relatively high standards of living ( I would put germany above britain, in fact), and with europe also containing the baltic states, though Im sure they are improving

Just because you don't agree with its politics doesn't mean that it has a bad standard of living. Israel is a very socialist leaning country, so many people live on Kibbutzim, which generally helps standard of living. Also the warm climate, fresh fruit and vegetables, good health care and education system, and strong economy helps a good standard of living.

Saying that it is too high at four.

    Haha, true.

I lived in Tokyo for 4 years though and they do have a very high standard of living - better then i've seen in most countries i've visited (quite a few :p:). Which is why I say it should be first.

Your list is extremely simplistic and massively flawed - but most of all, it's just plain wrong.

Have you lived in all of those countries? Then how can you possibly have an opinion on quality of life?

How can you have British land in their 3 times?

    What an abysmal list.

    (Original post by dn013)
not that I think his list is right, many European countries have a much better standard of living than almost every country on that list.
    YAAAAAAAAAWWWWWNNNNN......

But you have to state your opinion .
erm. you must be reading a different rule book to me.
