Dude, ours is 50% income tax, VAT is 15%, and IMO, the roads were MUCH cleaner and nicer then here. And socialism and capitalism! Have you seen the type of political parties we have here?! :P

Yea, I've heard something about Gordon Brown (I think somebody should tell him that he's doing a bad job - by this standard, Blair seems to have been some sort of genius  ).

BTW the 50% tax only applies to the higher-earner's echelon - most people would pay 40% at most - looked it up when I decided to move there...

"The UK" is just an abbreviated form of saying the united kingdom of great britain and northern Ireland- which is a country!
so you fail:yes:

 I just googled it and it is. Wow I never knew that
I am pretty embarassed now

Its one of the Scandinavian although the stuff there are v.v.v.v expensive. so my vote goes to Vatican City...
Italy.

strong fail, it's ridiculously expensive there and the girls are even uglier than they are in England

You've never seen Andrea Corr.
I really like my own country (Sweden), but for it to be the best country in the world, I think we would need politicians who wouldn't try to destroy our health care and remove our "social security net" (oh the wonder of direct translation). Otherwise, I'd definitely say Norway
NZ or Australia.

I've been to both and I love them both. I really hope I'll go back again someday.

Cannot believe Qatar was only mentioned once! A lush little island and one of the richest nations in the world, I believe. NZ comes close, though.

Canada sprung to mind first, I wouldn't want to live there myself but it has great health care, low crime etc. It's good in everything most of us bitch about in the UK. A lot of Indians too :yep:

You're forgetting that Ireland has a much higher minimum wage, higher salaries in general, and much higher social welfare and dole. It's still expensive but not 'ridiculously', not compared to Scandinavia and since income is higher it's more in proportion.

I love Ireland, but I wouldn't say it's the best country in the world by the OP's standards since it's economy is currently awful, the health system is a disaster and the government is a bit ***** too.

Norway is too expensive to be the best country in the world. Maybe Finland or Sweden?
