    There is little point in having both. I would just go for the desktop.

    my flatmate brought a desktop and a laptop, but he is a big nerdy gamer and one was all suped up for computer games.

    I'd just bring the laptop, a desktop would have be such a pain in the ass if you wanted to go and work in the library, or anywhere other than your room (which is something I do a lot).
