Awh Sundays were the best day to work there. It sounds like hours and management really varies between branches, so you should check with the branch directly. At mine everyone had their set hours to work and that was it. They decided to really cut my hours to only sundays nearer the end too, annoying.
I was on £5 (or incredibly close to) when I started there when I was 17. Maybe there was some kind of London living allowance, seeing as everyones on £4.something
It was a good place to work until they decided to have some management overhaul and got these two managers in that just... had the worst superiority complex. They didn't want to give you money or overtime [probably why I didn't get my final months pay], went insane on profits and essentially shouted at you if you didn't push enough half price haribo on people. NO ONE WANTED THE HARIBO! Be prepared for that. Terry's chocolate oranges and toblerone too..... although I see they're going more for greens & blacks these days.

I work for WHSmith & when I started at 17 I got paid £4.28 an hour for a 3 months probationary period. Then, it went up to £4.83. Now that I'm 18 I get paid £5.23/hour.
I work part time so I do every Sunday 11:00 - 5:20 (the extra 20 minutes because there are unpaid breaks and are required to work it back.. however, most of the time we leave at 5 lol! We only ever stay if we haven't finished the DVD charts that change Sunday night or some book promotions changing..)
I usually do 4:30 - 7:30 on Wednesday nights too, as it's out of town store we stay open later. And I usually do every other Saturday with differing times, usually about 4 or 5 hours.
I enjoy the job, my management team is really nice. Be prepared to hear "SELL CHOCOLATES" alot, but it's not too bad.. you can have a laugh with the customers sometimes lol.
But be prepared to have customers shout at you a lot about charging 1p for carrier bags. You also get a lot of old people coming in asking you for things that don't exist anymore and then you say no sorry we don't have it and they say "but you used to have it!".. yes about 60 years ago.. lol!

How your working hours will be a good question to ask them by getting in contact with them independently. Employers like those who show interest and consider their job opportunities seriously. Tell them you know/notice the store isn't open on Sunday. Attention to detail is always good too Good luck!
