This might sound a bit daft but starting in August I have a job as a science technician in a college. I'm going to be buying a new car pretty soon and right now I'm trying to get a few insurance quotes...

BUT... Under 'occupation' on the online comparison site, science technician isn't listed. What do I put? What am I? I've tried looking on the internet but all I've found is 'support staff', which also isn't listed. Technically I'll be working for the local council, does this make any difference? I'm confused

    Can anybody shed any light?

I'm a "Technical Support Scientist" for a pharmaceutical company, and the closest I can get is always Laboratory Technician. HOWEVER, for some unfathomable reason, some insurance companies claim that they don't insure my profession, no idea why. Maybe it's because we're too cool for school. In those instances I tend to just put scientist.

Perhaps if you can't find lab tech or tech, try teaching assistant? Not far off.
