    I went to 2 or 3 this year (it's only a half hour train journey for me) the only one that really stood out was Prom 52 which was Shostakovich's 8th symphony which was brilliant as conducted by Gergiev.

    However the real Highlight of that evening precluded that, Schnittke's "Nagasaki"'s UK premiere was absolutely incredible, the raw energy of the piece shows why he is regarded by some as Shostakovich's successor.

    I'm glad I didn't go to the Lang Lang prom now, apparently it was AWFUL. :yep:

    Hmm well my teacher said he was awful and that most of the critics disliked it, but actually looking online now a lot of them quite liked it :o:

    I guess he was just his usual self, or even more so - so for some they'd love it and others would hate it.

    Yeah, Lang Lang seems to be a bit of a Marmite character. Would be interesting doing research on differing opinions of him :yes:
