    Hi all....

was wondering if any1 could help me?

i'm a second year student and have been at natwest with my student account, but have had problems with them all year. i want to change bank but i am in my overdraft. i was wondering if i could change banks and debt gets carried over to the new bank (ill be getting a student account with them) or whether i cannot move banks until i have paid off the overdraft

    cheers

That is not a problem. Just go into the bank you want to open an account with. They will either just open an account for you so you can use the overdraft there to pay off the other one or they might be able to switch it for you.

Although - you said you were having problem with your current bank? Have you got a lot of bank charges? If so might cause problems getting approved for a new account although for student accounts they are less fussy and can appeal the computers decision if your rejected.

    oh cheers for that

i have had two charges since ive been with them (over 10 years). i beleive they were both "unpaid items fees". one before my student account about 2-3 years ago and one today, even though i made the bank aware that i needed my overdraft extended by 10 pound for two days to pay rent overwise i would be charged my them and they refused! which has really annoyed me. do you think i would have a problem with changing accounts?

No you will not have a problem. Try writing to them today asking for the charge to be dropped. If you have not had a charge in the last few years often they will write one off for you as goodwill. In fairness all banks are the same...
