If I had smoked salmon and rice, could I make my own sushi?

Japanese style rice is best (I use Japanese Premium Grade Medium grain). You also need rice vinegar which is what gives the rice flavour and makes it sticky.

So no. If you just have plain white rice and smoked salmon then no. You could just have rice and smoked salmon. That sounds nice.

Where do I get that from? We don't sell it at work

    And I can't, coz I don't have smoked salmon.

Seek out a chinese/japanese/oriental superstore near you. They should have all you need.

Most well-known super markets do a range of Japanese cuisine, just look for it in the ethnic section, (Well, the ones round me do, I'm not sure about other places)
As for the rice... if they don't have Japanese style rice, I believe you can use short grain Pudding rice (Don't hold me to this though, I've never personally tried it), just saying what I've been told xD

Certainly. They have excellent selections and they sell in bulk. D'you go to the one in Cricklewood too?

Yup, although admittedly rarely. I usually go every six months. I used to go more often when I was a student. Nowadays, I tend to pop into Arigato in Soho for any Japanese ingredients, and to buy the obligatory ramen packets.
