    Yes, you can say 'Genki' on its own, but I think it's better when you're learning to understand how particles and copulas work. :tongue:

    Formalities are rarely used and I certainly wouldn't say 'Genki desu ka?' amongst friends, so you were right to say 'Genki' alone.

    A friend of mine joined my international school midway and didn't know a word of Japanese, having been born in the US, despite being fully Japanese, and had to undergo intensive lessons outside normal class time. Unfortunately, because of our cultural slang and shortened sentence structure, she picked up some bad habits. So much so, the assistant teacher requested that we help her by speaking wholly. :giggle:
