I completely disagree with that. I don't think he's crazy. But generally people I've met with that opinion are cynical and/or deeply unhappy with their lives. It must be hard to go through life thinking like that about your own nature.

Humans are built with a very strong, sometimes overriding survival instinct for themselves and their offspring, I agree. But I also think they have evolved their natures to become so much more than that. Millions of people give up their time and money to make the world a better place or to make someone else's life easier, for little or no credit. They stop to help someone who has dropped their papers, or just want to comfort when they see someone upset. These people don't make headlines but they're there.

Human beings in general tend to have a strong desire to be good and do what is right. In fact, a lot of criminals delude themselves into believing what they are doing is not wrong. We're not perfect, but we try. That is how I would characterize the human condition.
i think the OJ in California has got to your head.

We as a species are bad, self-delusion wouldn't make it go away.

I think 'blase' doesn't really fit in the title.

i agree. but not everyone being all of these things, but generally, as a race, humans are these things.

not that i see much of a problem with it, i mean, what is life without controversy??

I'm not really a huge fan of orange juice but thanks.

Maybe I am delusional but putting together my knowledge of history and my 20 years of experiencing life, that's what I think. You don't have to agree.

Oh and PS. OJ is a Florida thing.

It's not only true but unavoidable. To suggest that human beings are not fundamentally self-interested (and this is the basis of the negative characteristics listed) is not only naive but ignorant of the position of humans from an evolutionary perspective.

I think you could boil down most of psychology to 'people are dicks'.
    This. Such is life

nope, hes right. human beings are a selfish take all you can speices - just look at how we treat out planet and each other

With any luck theres aliens out there watching us and showing us to thier alien babies and saying in thier alien language "if you dont behave we will give you to this lot" or to thier alien older children "this is how NOT to behave"

that way might be doing something right

ok, so since humans are bad, we do we need morality?
Being nice to people means they will likely be kind to you back. If we're all nice to each other, then we're safer and
    1) Can work together to achieve great things that benefit us all more than we could alone
    2) Don't need to spend energy panicking/worrying and defending ourselves all the time

It's the fundemental pillar of Socialism that human nature is co-operative and essentialy 'good'.

It is Capitalism and the corrupt capitalist systems that cause humans to be shallow, cruel and blasé.
we're not talking about systems effects on people, but the true nature of the human race. I understand your point but it is inaccurate to say that socialist systems create better societies because as seen in many things socialism is often corrupted by human greed.

We all have thoughts that would be of the described words above, just thats some people can hide them better or use tact when revealing their opinions.

Yes it is true in many cases even the nicest person in the world has their faults sometimes there is nothing wrong with being opinonated. Im sure most people are shallow to a degree even if they say they arent. Its just human nature but obviously some people are worse than others.
