    Hey all!

I'm going to be studying Combined Social Sciences at Durham (Hatfield) from October. I'm thinking about choosing MLAN1011 Beginners’ Spanish as part of my first year.

I did the normal French GCSE at school but really wasn't that interested in languages (it was the culture of my school to hate languages, the department was awful). Now I'm really jealous of people who can speak languages and would really like to give it a shot. I'm not super confident about my language abilities but figured I might as well try to pick one up in the first year when my result doesn't matter as much.

I was wondering if anyone has taken this course OR any of the beginners language courses OR knows anyone who has? What are they like? How difficult are they? How much do you learn in one year?

I've recently heard some negative things about the Spanish department from an ex-Durhamite which have made me a bit anxious about the course.

    Thank you in advance!
