The question's in the thread title. Which of the nine symphonies is/are your favourite(s) and why?

    Personally, I love 8, 5, 6, and 9. 8 has the most glorious coda I've ever heard.

    What about you lot?

Well, as you've already indicated by your profusion of choices, it's not easy to pick one.

I suppose I like the fifth and the tenth best (I have the first Deryck Cooke version w. Simon Rattle). They just ooze Mahlerian magnificence with every bar. The first movement of the tenth is absolutely staggering - complex, double-edged and full of beautiful passages. (And then of course there's that crisis chord that hits you in the middle: scary stuff!)
