Hey, im going to be doing Animation and Special Effects this Sep in Leeds Met, ill be living in Opal 1 & 2......anyone going to be in my class?????? :biggrin:

hey, yeah....whats the course like lol. Did most of the class know alot about it all when the first came into the class, or is it more or less starting from the very basics, havnt a clue what to expect!

The course is great :smile:

Of about 18 people who started the course, only myself and one other had ever done anything similar before - so I wouldn't worry!

Your first year is spent working in a portfolio and exploring the areas of drawing, 3d modeling and interactivity, video production and audio (group work)... and concept development. Finally you take all of these skills learned, develop an idea, and build it :smile:

They assume that you haven't done it before and introduce you to all of the software through step-by-step tutorials.

Second year involves much more group work and aims to specialise you into one particular field. You explore in more detail the areas of Interactive Media and Concept Development (group work)... then Video Post Production and Animation Concepts. Finally you do a massive group project in which you develop an idea, build it, evaluate it and keep documentation of your project management. This final project is worth half of your 2nd year.

Third year you have two options to choose from out of a list of possible modules (e.g. 3D character design, motion graphics, audio, interactivity) and you do these along with a research project and a module on animation theory. After that you do a module on Advanced Effects and produce your MAJOR project with a team of your choice.

I haven't done anything like this before..well except art in high skool...n this is kinda new for me..n im sooo nervous but i love special effects!..lol I start this sept..so i need some info...thnx..

To be quite honest (and not very modest) I can't even draw a straight line and I'm one of the highest performers on the course! So I wouldn't worry yourself :smile:

Well in your first year you'll have free use of MacBook Pro's and 24" iMacs... so theres plenty of time to get converted :smile:
