So the only trainers I own are really disgusting, so until I can get new ones, do you think its acceptable to wear converse to the gym, even though they wont offer the best support in the world?

hmmm depends what machines youll be using; treadmill, no, weights etc, fine. Converse really kill your feet if youre running/walking a lot. I'd say wear the trainers, its not about how you look! Its just doing exercise, no ones going to judge you on your shoes lol.

wear the trainers. converse will do your feet NO favours and you won't be able to do much other than weights/resistance machines

As has been previously mentioned, feel free to wear them when doing weights etc - I usually just wear pumps when doing weights. But do NOT run in them, you will feel the pain afterwards for a couple of days.

It would be much more effective to throw them in the washing machine, rather than on it.

I wore my converse for 2 weeks of going to gym, on treadmill most times. Didn't hurt my feet at all, I guess it depends how well they fit you and how tough your feet are.

I doubt people will point and stare, so just wear them and see how you feel in them.

I see why not. I go to the gym in Air Force 1s - not the best trainers for the treadmill but decent otherwise.

To be honest, if you feel comfortable in them - wear them!

Converse are popular with weight lifters due to their good ankle support due to being hightop/

    I just wear trainers.

They're ok for weights, but I wouldn't run in them.

You can run in converse but i wouldn't advise running in them frequently. I did this and after a while I started getting loads of cramp so now i just run in my fell running shoes.

I think they would be ok for weights/ exercise bike/ cross trainer as they're low impact.
I wouldn't wear them for running though as it's best to wear running trainers to give your feet the best support : )

no, they don't offer the arches of your feet proper support. You will end up doing yourself damage in the long run. Buy some specialised running shoes instead - they are inexpensive if you go to outlet stores or don't buy a big brand names.
