Ocr Gcse Pe

Hey, did anyone do the exam today? What does everything think of it? I'm pretty pissed off to be honest - I revised pretty much everything for PE, and yet, none of which I'd learnt came up. Not really any Biology content or anything, it was all about old ladies doing recreation! Bit of a shitty exam, if you ask me.

Plus, I'm feeling a little pissed off, I kept dithering whether or not to put "Pressure Training" or "Circuit Training" on one of the questions about preparing for competition with a training method. At first I thought it meant any method so I put "Circuit", and then I realised (about half way through) that it was probably "Pressure" but I still didn't change it!! Grr. Now I wish I had - and the only reason I didn't was because I didn't want to mess up the page (which was already really messy!). 2 mark out there then. :frown:

Opinions...

Er, did someone just change the title of this thread to non-capital letters? Coz that really pisses me off...

I did it too. Yeah four social reasons why sports good for retired people I wrote a load of rubbish except the obvious one, I know the OCR markscheme is rele weird so hopefully I'll get some marks. Erm I put circuit training as well and to be honest I think that is right cos circuit training is a method and as far as I rememba it asked for a method. Do u know what mark u got out of 60 for practical and coursework cos that mite bump ur grade up depending?

Ooh..you shouldn't have admitted that you did it! Lol. I'm gonna hound you with questions now. I'm one of those really annoying people who can't just let an exam go afterwards (well I can, but only if I think I've done well!).

Circuit Training is indeed a method. But it asked for; "a recognized method which would help prepare the participant for a competition"...it was that last bit that got me thinking, no dammit, it's Pressure! Becaue Pressure Training is all about recreating the competition atmosphere isn't it? Do you understand were I'm coming from? Because Circuit Training isn't really relevant to an actual competition, which is what I started to think. It's reassuring that you put it as well though; hopefully we'll get the marks.

It annoyed me though, that none of the bones, muscles, principles, fitness, training programmes, joints, health etc were on it - all the stuff I knew throughly. What exactly did you put then for the retired question? I didn't know how to answer it specifically according to the retired person, so I just put down any social benefits of exercise, regardless of the individual's age. (Making friends eg. socialising, improving body image, helps the person to relax and enjoy themselves, and erm...I said to occup their free time because they're not working any longer!!). Don't think I will have picked up too many marks on that, to be honest!

Erm...what else. On the last question, I put as my four "risks": the incorrect footwear, the fact that they hadn't checked the weather, the advice to bring coke, and finally, they only had plasters as first aid. To correct these, I said they should advise the group to wear "secure walking footwear - preferably walking boots", that they should bring a proper first aid kit containing bandages, dressings, instructions etc, also that they should check the weather forecast and plan accordingly, and finally, they should advise participants to take plenty of fluids; including lots of water, to avoid dehydration.

For the 12 minute Cooper Run question - I put "Stamina". And then, for the follow up question; "Boys". The somatotype question was quite vague (that's what I hate about OCR PE - it's too bloody vague). So I just rambled on that an ectomorph was good at things like Long Distance Running because they were slim, but with some muscle content. And that an Endomorph was best suited to Sumo Wrestling, because they had wide hips but narrow soldiers, but high fat composition. And finally, I put that Mesomorph's were good at sports, such as Rugby, because they were really muscular, and had wide shoulders, but narrow hips.

I was really vague on the Heart Rate questions, and Recovery Graph. I didn't know whether to talk specifically about the graph or not. So I rambled some **** about the heart rate increases because the muscles require more oxygen to carry on functioning, and the harder they work, the more oxygen they need, and thus the heart rate increases further. I didn't really mentioned the "light work", or the "moderate work" though, which I think you were meant to. :frown: On the recovery question, I just said the heart rate slows down - quicker from light work, faster from heavier workout. I realise now I should have said it depends partly on fitness too. Both of those questions were worth 4 marks each though, and I know I didn't make 4 points for both let alone individually! Ah well...

What else was there? The smoking I said the usual about difficulty breathing, short of breath, poor muscular fitness, poor muscular endurance, poor cardiovascular fitness...etc, all because there would be a lower oxygen capacity, lower VO2 Max, the cilia hairs were covered in tar and thus damaged, the alveoli too were damaged so less gaseous exchange could take place. Thus less oxygen, meant the muscles would become fatigued more quickly (ie. lower muscular endurance). The participant may suffer from Bronchitis, Emphysema, Smoker's Cough etc...and that they had fewer red blood cells, and less oxyhaemoglobin.

Muscle question, about regular exercise, I said; Muscular strength and fitness would improve, as would muscular endurance,as the muscle fibres themselves would become fatter and thicker, and thus, be able to contract more powerfully and thus more quickly. I said Dynamic, Static, and Explosive Strength would also improve
and said therefore that the participant may be better at sports which required these components of strength ("Arm Wrestling"!!!, and "Sprinting"). I also put something about cardiac muscles strengthening and thickening, and that CV Fitness would therefore improve.

Er, for the first question I put: GCSE PE. And for the follow up I think I put, coaching or guidance from the coach/teacher, and increases self confidence!! (I couldn't think!)

I think for the third one about strength, I put rugby. And said that strength in rugby meant that the player would be more able to tackle, and withold tackles. Thus aiding his performance.

The Water - essential part of the diet, I was a bit gutted about! There are so many other, easier, dietary things they could have asked! I forgot to put about chemical reactions (grr), I put: In order to replace fluids lost via urine, sweat and even breath, to avoid dehyradition - I think I put something about vitamins and minerals in there too! Didn't really know that. :frown:

For dehydration (which, is it even on the syllabus? I spent so long revising bloody Hypothermia, Hyperthermia, Concussion, Winding etc - and what do they give us; DEHYDRATION!!). I randomly guessed and said: nausea, dizzyness and feeling hot (!!). I said to treat it, you should give the sufferer lots of fluids, preferably water.

Can't remember anymore right now! Sorry I've rambled on...I need closure!

I didn't do OCR but rather Edexcel.

I thought some of the questions were rather vague.

As with all my exams so far, my grade is hanging in the balance.

I can't let an exam go either. I'm uberworried about my English Lit. Everytime I think about it, I keep wondering if it'll cost me.

What did you guys get for practical?

I only got 49/60 which means I need 38/39 / 40 to get an A in overall, when scaled down. I worked it out and I need about 145/150. I think I missed it by a few marks but I'll ask my teacher tomorrow if the exam was hard and see if perhaps the boundaries will go down...

I think 76 is an A so dividing the theory mark by two u only need about 27, well thats what i thought anyway, i hope so too! Oh damn uve made me realise a lot of things i forgot to put esp. for the smoking q, just wrote bout less O2, less alveoli, disease and a load of otha waffle. For the retired people I just sed: meet new people, keep up with fashion, don't get depressed, feel they are utilising time well, can visit new places and sum otha stuff desperate to get the marks - sometimes they have ridiculously easy but also stupid things on the mark scheme so i thought i mite as well try. neway no time to waffle on, french and spanish tomorrow! Just forget about it neway there's nothing you can do now, wats done is done and form what uve sed uve done pretty well - in my opinion anyway.

Cheers, MartinJolly. I should just put it to rest. I got 10/10 for my Coursework (forget to answer the question before!), but I'm not sure what I got in my practical. We were told it was out of 50!! Coursework was 10% plus Practical, which is 50%, equalled 60%. I was told I got high 40s in the Practical, but out of 50, I think I got like 47 or something. Then you add 10 to 47 to get 57/60. I think.

Do you mean you need 76% for an A? Or 76/80 on the paper?

Good Luck with your French and Spanish.
