She recently said that she went out with a guy last year and it "ended really badly"

Does she mean by that, that he simply dumped her,
    OR

there was a big incident and the two had a huge argument, or he cheated on her or something like that?

    Ask her!
How the heck is anyone else supposed to know, it could be either or neither.

the word "really" gives it all away. He obviously cheated on her.

Definitely this. OP, when you inevitably make it with her mum, make sure that she's included as well and everything will be rosey. :yep:

    I wouldn't ask.
She obviously doesn't want to go into details.
He probably cheated on her, or they had a row about something.

He could even involve a member of his own family, so his gf doesn't feel awkward.

Hmm. Maybe he'd have to invite an attractive second or third cousin. I'm sure he wouldn't mind that.

It means she saw him thrashing around naked on a tarp covered in melted butter while residents of an old peoples' home threw oranges at him.

Probably just means they fell out - and it might have been her fault.

Silly creatures, women. But not as difficult as men.
