Hi could you please tell me what your average weekly budgets are for going to Sheffield uni and a breakdown of what the budghet includes eg, food, going out etc. Thanks as i would really like to know how much to realistically budget for!

    Normally I spend:-
    £25 food
    £30 going out
    £20 academic/busfares and misc

But then I like going out alot so other people probably spend less!

You'll probably end up spending £35 - 50 a week, on average, on top of your rent

I'd say around £50 a week on average is a normal amount (for me). Although it depends how much you go out, and any other outgoings that you may have.

It really depends what kind of stuff you eat, what you do when you go out, whether you drink, etc, and how much money you have! Like if you find you only have £20/wk, you work around that. I spend around £10/wk on food and essentials, so roughly £50/month. This includes organic and fairtrade foods, and toiletries, but no meat, dairy or alcohol. So it's really down to personal preference and what you can afford.

Yes I would recommend it if you have £40 to live off. It depends how much you go out, but it could be difficult. Try to factor in as well that in Dec/Jan time you will probably need to put down a deposit on your second year house of around £250! It can make the first semester a bit tight.

Also remember to take into consideration non-regular things like the costs of travel home at Christmas (and Christmas in general, if you participate in such things) when working out your budget.

Can't wait to move back to Sheffield £30 a weekly budget for going out, that wouldn't even get you 2 drinks and entry to a club in London. (unless it was a spoons)

Depends on what you spend I suppose.

I probably spend £50-60 on going out and general pubs (much more near the start of term and in my first year generally)

    £20-30 on food

£100-£120 on gas, electricity, broadband, tv package for the household (Most of this won't apply in your first year)

There are two of us sharing, so £50-60 each.

    £10 toward monthly phone package.

So probably over £150 a week in total. Plus rent, of course. I cut down on non-essentials towards the end of term though, when things get tight.

You COULD live on a lot less, though.
