if theres a higher pass rate then A-levels are becoming too easy
    Agreed!

if the pass rate is miserable they're becoming too difficult.
No... it'll be 'education standards are slipping. The youth of today aren't working as hard as we did in our day and teachers are slacking etc...'

    it's a lose-lose situation! I HATE the media!!!

the sad thing is you would expect after a long extensive marking process that results would be accurate, in reality, many people have re-marks...

Thing is, its no that the education standard are slipping these days... its mearly that UMS marks seriously screw any chances we have of making it look as though we have done some work.

UMS marks are fixed by government/standards agencies to ensure it makes it look as though overall education is increasing. Only a few people know the truth. A true conspiracy

I know there are various stages to marking/moderation/centralisation of results and checking/adjustment etc etc but seriously exams run from mid May - mid June yet results aren't out till mid August.

I understand there must be about half a million (or more) scripts but still... I think August 1st would be much more acceptable than late August. So why do they take SO long?

I know this is off topic but why have you chosen applied to lots of different courses at different universities, shouldn't you pick the same one?

Yeah I know it's slightly unorthodox to apply to such different courses but I found that one course at one uni interested me but the same course elsewhere I had no interest in so I basically just went for whatever appealed. And it keeps my options somewhat open. Though I think I'm scrapping Electronic Engineering @ UCL cos I couldn't aim my personal statement towards it at all so I think I'm gonna go for Biochemical Engineering with Chemical Engineering @ UCL instead - which is still different to my other courses
