    Hi,

I'm pretty fluent in Japanese having lived there for 11 years... I've finished AS, awaiting results.. but I want to do AS and A2 Japanese (Edexcel) in January.. As I understand, there are only 2 units? 3 hours each? Do you think they can both be sat in Jan? I'll be teaching myself, so are there any textbooks/teaching materials available? The only past-paper I have access to is the 2007 one... the Edexcel site is being really uncooperative.
I got 99% for GCSE Japanese, so I REALLY want to do it, thinking it'd be an easy A. If I'm wrong, please don't hesitate to tell me!!

Also, is there a listening/oral component to this exam??

The old-spec Edexcel Japanese A-level is gone; you will have to start on the new-spec. But there are only minimal differences. There are still two units; the first unit, 6JA01 consists of a 2hr 45min paper, the second unit, 6JA02, a 3hr paper.

Both are only available in the summer. The old-spec Unit 2 (6662) is available in January 2010 only as a retake, but the old-spec Unit 1 (6661) is not, so you wouldn't be able to use the January session at all.

    Specimen Paper for the new-spec:

Edexcel have released their 2009 papers for the new-spec (only the 6JA01 was available, as it was the first year of the new-spec), but they are available only by special login from a teacher:

You can make use of the old-spec papers for practice, as you're doing with the 2007 paper. I can't find any other old-spec papers ; sorry.

Hope that was of some use.

Hey, yeah thankyou!! Oh, that was so silly of me... Ah, well. Cool. I'm actually wondering if it's even worh doing it. It seems so hasslesome, especially since I'm going to have to be teaching myself...
