Geography A*?

HEY
sorry if it seems like i'm obsessed with getting A*s, i kinda am!!! ok so here's the scanario;
i'm doing AQA specification A Geography.

25% is for coursework and i got 19/30 which is not that good a mark but it's my own damn fault coz i left it to last minute as it had to be handed it before christmas holidays and i rushed it as i was going on xmas holidays.

so basically i go into the exam with 16% which is kinda crappy but better than nothing.

i really really really really want an A* in geography coz it's such a pointless and easy subject that invloves just pure memory, well apart from mapwork that is.

anyways i'm hoping to just to really well on the 2 written papers and get high A*s in them.
do you think i could get an A* if i work my arse off on the papers which make up 75%?

to be honest, you'll have to do pretty well in the written exams to get an a*
I did aqa gcse geography spec A and I got 30/30 on my coursework and I got an A* but my friend got 29/30 and he missed an A* by 0.5%!!!
He was good at written exams as well.

A lot of mark scaling goes on. I don't know what the effort difference between getting an A or A* in geography is, but last year when I did AQA spec A geography, I only did some last minute scanning through my textbook just before the exam (apart from that, I didn't do any revision). I went in to the exam, felt like I didn't even know the answer to a single question. Guessed some answers, improvised some, and still got an A. I even did stupid things like writing a single line answer for one of the 7 mark questions (I think its 7 marks, is it?).

I ended up with an A. I did get 25 out of 25 in my coursework though. So I think you could get an A* if you revise like crazy for the exam. Otherwise it is an A, which is still excellent (an A* is just the upper part of an A!).

Im doing the same specification for geography as you and I got the same in my coursework. I asked my teacher and she said I need about 81% in the exam for an A*. That should be quite easy to get as long as you know your case studies.
If you've got 16% so far that means you've dropped about 9% which leaves you at 91% if you got full marks... to get an A* I think you need about 85% overall so that's means you can afford only to lose about 6% out of 75% on your final exams.

It's do-able, I got 99/100 with OCR on my final exam :biggrin:

it's such a pointless...subject

If you expect advice after slagging off what is truly the greatest and most relevant subject then, well, you're stupid. :p:
