I think "bordering on cutting himself" is more appropriate.

He has maintained his position at Number 10 despite the worst economic crisis in decades; the expenses scandal; internal party strife; poor opinion polls; poor European and local election results; etc - but he's going to be crushed by a by-election loss? Yeah right.

Maintained his position, because he hasn't held a general election....

John Major lost a whole bunch of by-elections and still managed to get into power. They're usually just a chance for the people to have their say when they dislike government, although it sucks for Brown, it's not the end of the world. (although in his case it probably is)

Welp, never saw that one coming.

That said, it's a sad situation when we're voting in Tories simply because we don't like Labour. A lesser of two evils situation is never good.

No doubt he did see it coming. I imagine he has been given a fairly accurate prediction of the forthcoming General Election too.
Didn't you here? They've completely outlawed General Elections now. Brown is here to stay for all eternity, just like he wanted.

I'm in tears! Labour at 18%! What a beautiful number.

Less than 1/5 voting for them!

    Joy!

I'll come back when I'm more articulate!

His days are numbered. We all know it. Even he does.
Yay - Gordon's days are numbered. I can't wait till Dave and his Tory buddies get into office!

It's going to be a great day for the poor, gay people, single parents, those unable to find a job and social cohesion. Good times.

To be honest, if (more like when at this point, but they still have a shot at winning it I suppose) labour lose power people will notice that nothing changed for the better suddenly overnight and that at this point, all the political parties are as crap as each other.

Monster Raving Loony party all the way.

I'm not having a pop at anyone.

Just saying..if there was a mass negging of a Labour leader who signs up to TSR, it'd be nice to see 'his' own party help him out a little...

    Sadly he's right xD
He doesn't have to do anything by law. We could have 25 years of Gordon Brown since everything is done by convention

Whether he'd last for another 25 year let alone days is debatable though xD

And yet he'll hang on until next year, in the hope that his fortunes will improve. The longer Labour cling on to power now, the longer they will be out of it, I think.

    (I hope.)
