An unknown figure in the millions describes the number of innocent people who have died due to the American 'all guns blazing' method of creating that cherished 'democracy'. This is probably why people aren't so keen on him.
Much of the responsibility lies with Bush himself as Premier but a lot of the blame goes to his administration and the government of Britain under Blair too. However, he is usually seen as the man who willed this programme into action, and at the top of US government, his position naturally demanded that he took the blame personally.Last edited by DJkG.1; 25-07-2009 at 18:49. -

'A small group of American nutters blow up the Eiffel Tower, France reacts by going to war with Canada, causing untold loss and pain, eventually, France leaves Canada, apparently 'improved, with a democracy'.
Would you call that fair? -

He banned stem cell research.
He authorized the PATRIOT act.
He put in place ridiculous tax cuts on the richest americans.
He totally failed at handling Katrina.
He set up Guantanamo bay.
He invaded Iraq for oil.
He gave even more money to Pakistan.
He unilaterally attempted to isolate countries like Iran or N Korea without attempting to negotiate (when it comes down to it this was one of the few areas he was right based on recent events!)
He cancelled the assault weapons ban.
Various other things that i can't remember.
As it turns out, Iraq is actually turning out quite nicely and exporting billions of dollars of oil, with a relatively secularist and friendly government (friendly to the US anyway). But that doesn't mean it was a justified war (Saddam's iraq was said to be all the things (terrorist funding nuclear state with opaque corrupt militarist government) that Pakistan is, yet Saddam was attacked for Oil whereas Musaraff was not). -

But completely different situations anyway, cause of the massive differences in ideology/wealth/military power of Canada and Afghanistan -

[QUOTE=DJkG.1]We went to war due to the threat of WMDs, of which there were none. The war with the Taliban developed as a result and the Taliban are getting stronger and stronger as a result of the UK-US invasion; [QUOTE]
The Taleban have gone from being a form of government to being an insurgency. Their numbers have dropped drammatically and they have lost wealth, capability and land due to the invasion. How are they getting stronger? -Their strength lies mainly in influence and cunning. -

Bush had a difficult presidency and has to make some tough decisions whether or not they were the right decisions we have yet to see really. I don't quite see why people always brand him as 'stupid' - i seriously think he is probably a far wiser man than 99.99% of the world's population.
If you ask me, the problem Bush had was a totally PR one, he made some unpopular decisions which then many celebrities/people in the public eye spoke out against and thus incurred the wrath of the masses. In a similar way that many people in the public eye and celebrities (although this was probably the intention of some spindoctors) endorse Obama and the world loves him.Last edited by Square; 25-07-2009 at 19:02. -

The majority of countries on Earth are not democratic. Would you say that we should kill millions and cause havoc in each and every single one of these countries to impose what we think is a superior system of government?
Whatever happened to live and let live? Each country has its sovereignty - how would you feel if world fortunes reversed and an incredibly powerful African tribe thought that your government wasn't treating you fairly, so they bombed the UK? Would you agree then? -

God, why do some people think that a democracy is an objectively agreed desire of every person and any other form of government is objectively wrong and warrants any action - even a ruthless invasion which kills millions - to try and create that democratic system, at all costs.

He went to Afghanistan to "find" Osama bin Laden. He did not. He even stopped looking for bin Laden.
"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him." --Washington, D.C., Sept. 13, 2001"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority." --Washington, D.C., March 13, 2002
"We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories ... And we'll find more weapons as time goes on. But for those who say we haven't found the banned manufacturing devices or banned weapons, they're wrong, we found them." --Washington, D.C., May 30, 2003"Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere!" --joking about his administration's failure to find WMDs in Iraq as he narrated a comic slideshow during the Radio & TV Correspondents' Association dinner, Washington, D.C., March 24, 2004 -

No and no.

He went to Iraq because Saddam "had weapons of mass destruction". He did not. -
