oh that would be very useful then! like help with your homework! my dad helped me with physics (he just retrained as a teacher but it helped him too cause he was learning the way we learn it too) and he could manage standard grade maths with me but not higher! he has a higher maths and always goes on about how exams are getting so much easier! haha :p: i suppose, like i think a B or a C is amazing and no doubt i shall be getting my first of them tomorrow if i haven't failed anything! but its just when everything else is A's. awk these exams are absolutely nothing, its our BDS which will actually count for something

you don't need to check at all :p: your done with track and have your place! you think you can still log in when your at uni or will it be gone?

nah chemistry at advanced higher was so bad, it wasn't even chemistry it was just plain mean!!! but I'm glad i sat the final exam, just hope its enough to get into glasgow! :p: was there not a limit on the number of words, a guy in my class done a 40000 word one and had to cut it down to 2500! you can bake? cool, i still cant bake, we had an amazing teacher who basically spoon fed us how to bake the cakes which was good cause if she didn't help us then we would of burned the school down! and her daughters done dentistry so made sure my cakes were good enough to show the interview panel, well the best that i could possibly do! haha my wee turtle i made in my final exam was good though i wish i done AH biology and i know what you mean, like biology higher, i studied all the wrong stuff that didn't come up, there's so much of it.

nah i thought chemistry was okay at higher, AH took the piss a bit though! that i could not handle!! but i think its cause i enjoyed higher so wanted to learn and get better, i found english the hardest cause i'm a maths person! :p: did you think english was harder than higher chemistry?

yeh i crashed it and like my teacher was good, i just think that i would of learned better with another teacher, like she moved too fast and me and the other person crashing didn't have a clue cause she didn't take into account we have no physics knowledge, still i think at the end of the day its up to you how well you do and i have no excuses but if you have an amazing teacher it can definetely make the difference! especially if your struggling.

well its safe to say you can crash business without doing it at SG!! i wonder what that would be like :p:

slacker in 5th year? yeh cause AAAAA is so slacking isn't it? haha!
i wanted to be a dentist since first year! seriously i asked my science teacher where you have to go to do it :p: it was that or primary teaching but i done my 4th year work experience as a primary teacher
and got harrased of these wee guys! i was like i am not putting myself through this every day! i just wouldn't get taken seriously like they followed me home and came in for me!!! how mortifying! and then wrote me these dirty valentines cards  how embarrassing is that! they were ******* 10!!!!!!!!!! and the girls who were like 7 were like what mascara do you use, and like can i use your make up, so yeh im a very bad influence!! i just said i wasn't wearing any, i became more a friend than a teacher so that's a huge problem. so yeh that's when it was defo dentistry and i read a book in 3rd year looking at entry requirements but it was a general one and it said AAAAA in one sitting i was like omg! i better work hard to get this! :woo: have you always wanted to do dentistry?

oh i didn't think of that, if we pass which we better then 22! its ridiculous in America! you should be allowed study dentistry and medicine younger, i think when your 17/18 your pretty mature anyway.

yes it was a glasgow dentistry thread but yet again there's loadsa dentistry in it :p: this post is saying how we originally wanted to do dentistry! i'd feel weird if a stranger was talking to me, unless they were very hot or something, even then i'd be like wtf.

i totally agree with you, it's so much simpler working in the mens department at work cause guys don't care!! they're not going to ask for a different size or colour! girls are such complicated shoppers but we have really good customer service so would always help even if it means going out your way to help it's so funny when you see a women dragging her husband about mens trying to pick him clothes, i feel sorry for them!! haha and girls always take the hangers but guys are like nah your okay, thats because their clothes stay on the floor! :p: i'm messy too! i nearly fainted at the tills cause a customer took £250 back of kids clothes back of sale stuff! there was like 40 items! took 50 mintues to do the transaction!   i love shopping, i should go shopping tomorrow to cheer myself up! i'm working tomorrow are you? i think people are about to hit me though in there cause all i do is go on about these results! is hould just not open my mouth at all tomorrow :p:

how come you didnt go? and i had 40% attendance for business so she cant complain that much :p: but i suppose english was really hard to catch up on.

i do wanna go to glasgow but i know fine well i might be going to dundee so i've set myself up for being positve whatever happens, its just been such a tough year for everyone really with uni stresses that i would like to end this whole application experience on a high one, like i had no confidence in my academic ability in 6th year even after coming off from getting 5A's so it was a personal struggle for me to actually believe i can pass these exams, cause none of the teachers did, like only one chemistry teacher out the 3 says i have a chance of passing! fingers crossed i have

yeh the hills is totally scripted! omg did you watch one tree hill last night! it was a horror movie!!! i kept jumping! glad that nanny has gone now, yeh i prefer the later years too. desperate housewives is amazing! like its so funny so you should watch the whole thing :p:

aye cause your going to attack your own dentist, it probably is more likely to be the other way about lmao! nah i love glasgow though and we have a bad rep for teeth so being able to help that and help wee children to look after their teeth eevn though their circumstances like money and education are against them would really make me happy.

awwh dont worry, my mum and dad are int heir 50s and my mum got made redundant which i really think she should use a bit to buy me a car but hey! she was a civil servant. haha and my dad got made redundant a few years ago from motorola, i think he was an electronic engineer and retrained as a physics teacher, done his probabtion year and is now looking for a job but theres like none, teachers so bad to get into the now. he might have to move to aberdeen but theres so many more people in a much worse situation! honestly everyones losing their jobs! its so awful  thats why i took the loan out so i wouldnt be a burden on them, more than i already am haha

nah i watched a programme on male escorts, apartently high earning women use them, i hope i dont ever have to resort to that!! :p: nah i meant the dirtier one! how did we even start talking about that one? lol

i loved TRS for dentistry stuff cause none of my close friends were doing it and had no one to talk to about it as sad as that sounds! but now its like you says, too much free time!

omg i am really going for it on this thread tonight! look how long my post is  i think its nerves!! its like a disortation!!

    GOOD LUCK FOR TOMORROW!!
That took a while to read :p:

Both my parents are chemistry PHDs, so kinda had to do well in chemistry. Only really asked for help if I didn't understand something completely, tried to do most of it on my own.

Our biology teacher told us there was no word limit, just a recommended minimum, either way, it's only worth one mark in the whole paper. I think I did around 60 hours of work for my bio investigation, can't cram that in 2500 words!

I can cook/bake well enough to get by, but not at an impressive level. Should help in uni; i'm a fussy eater! Lol... you shouldn't eat from the spoon! Raw egg ain't good for you. One thing I didn't like from cooking classes was the attention to presentation, it's going to be a mess in my stomach anyway, not bothered what it looks like! I'd probably fail cake dec :o:

I didn't think higher english made sense, and you couldn't just memorise it (some close reading techniques, maybe, but not the rest of it) which i think was my downfall. I'd say it's harder than higher chem.

Physics would be hard without previous knowledge, the rest of us had a two year head start to work out the mysteries of transistors and current!

You'd be surprised at how little work you can do but still get by in 5th year. We were always left on our own in physics to do booklets of questions, but having an hour long chat was always more interesting; never did homework for maths (it wasn't checked over, no point doing it); computing didn't need much effort; biology got easier with time. Chemistry was a bi*ch.

I only considered dentistry like last year. I had work experience a couple of years back, but wasn't convinced. But it grew on me after a while. Considered all my options before deciding though, went through every possilbe kind of engineering (electronic, software, chemical, mechanical, civil) and medicine... Just to be sure.

That work experience must have been awful; kids are a lot more exposed to the 'adult world' now than when we were younger. It's amazing the stuff that some say... without understanding the meaning of it. I wouldn't be able to handle primary teaching, up until the age of about 7 they start to talk back. Lose their innocence. Got a litte brother and sister myself. They ask so many questions; it's hard to keep up with their thought process sometimes!

I think they're trying to make the UK graduate only for med/dent now. Can't understand why. I suppose the only reason is to 'put patients at ease' with an older person, falsely assuming that it means more experience!

One of the reasons I avoid the tills, the most you'd have to do on the shop floor is show someone where something is. You don't have to sit there counting £15 in 5p coins as a queue starts to build :o:

I don't think my attandance was as low as 40%, my 'days off' were evenly spread throught the year. I started english after the summer, so I was already a fair bit behind the class!

I'm sure you'll get into glasgow, even if you don't make the offer (which I'm sure you will) you can still call them up and make your case. They thought you were a good enough applicant to get a place, why would they dismiss you on a condition above their mim requirements which you've already met?

I thought the hills was scripted! Some of the conversations they have in it isn't very interesting. Seems weird that a group of people brainstormed round a table and that's what got filmed. I'm following one tree hill online (never remeber when tv shows are on, always miss them), I think I'm a bit further. So the nanny's been shot by dan? She doesn't come back, she was proper evil (but hot, like most of the cast of OTH), won't spoil the rest for you. Isn't desperate housewives on like the 4th or 5th season? Would take far too much time to watch it from the start. I think i'll just follow it from now. They also went for the 'all grown up' approach. But I think OTH did it better.

I would have thought it would be easier to get a job in glasgow rather than aberdeen. The city's massive! Apart from your typical jobs, the main industry in aberdeen is oil, every second person does some kind of oil extraction job. Their salaries can go a lot higher than dentists too. :p:

Would never want to be a male whore for old rich people! Eww. I'd have to move to london to make any real money anyway, and london is so expensive that I'd spend most of my 'wage' on rent. I'm sure some have found a workaway round this... where would you find rich lonely females and cheap rent?

The thing is, I only talk about exams and dentistry on TSR, I'd just assume that most other people don't really give a toss, which is fair enough. I've known people for months, they ask if I'm going to uni, I tell them denistry and without thinking I get the "Ugh, I'd hate to do that, looking into dirty mouths all day" or the really shocked "Don't you need good grades to get onto that?" Can't decide which one is worse.

Oh... almost forgot! Exam results! Checked them online, Got AAAB (AH Chem & Bio, H Bus man & English), I'm really gutted about english, parents were telling me that it's brilliant I did so well and how can I seriously be upset. But it looks ugly on the certificate -

    Course Name Level Award
    Biology Advanced Higher A
    Chemistry Advanced Higher A
    Business Management Higher A
    English Higher B

Best of luck on your results, hope you get what you're aiming for!

Hey just wondering if you had confirmation that you passed your hep b/c? and if so, how long after did it take to hear you had passed it?

I had 2 tests, they wouldn't let me do work experience without it so I went to occupational health off my own back. You know they never checked at the local practice I got experience - think they trying to palm me off - no chance I was on a BDS entry mission!!

got luck to all those waiting for results.

Hey, yes I am. When you reach your offer you get an e-mail about halls and sort it all out then. Haven't heard anything about health checks yet, and yeah i'm wondering whats gunna happen then!

I'm guessing your gunna be living in halls next year so i was just wondering are you gunna be applying for early accom because health checks are starting from the 10th and I think halls actually open on the 11th or 12th!
Yeah no idea what the health checks are about- i think ill possibly be staying in a hotel or sumting cuz ill hav all my stuff to take over from northern Ireland in the car and either my mum or dad will be there - so more than likely jus book a hotel a few days before to get to grips with the city!! sooo excited tho -hopefully ill get the grades. Hopefully staying in queen margaret- kinda wanted ensuite and i saw them on the open day - tbh tho i have no idea how big a walk it is to the dental school?? hmmm xxx

Ah i see, I thought you meant 20th of September for some reason! Good luck when they come out! I know I would be so nervous if I was moving away from home, I'd miss everyone too much! Do you have any friends or family up here?
At first I was worried that I didn't know anyone cos all my friends went to uni last year (I took a year out). But now I've realised most of us are all in the same boat and don't know anyone. Everyone I've talked to on this is really nice though so I can't wait to start!

Celebrations are def in order! haha no I was so confused as well i just gave up in the end! What are the field days? I've heard about them but don't know what they are exactly. But if it's an excuse to get drunk then they sound fantastic haha. I'm the same staying at home. It would be nice to move out and so handy but then I'd miss my family too much and I could never afford it! You organised for uni, had your hep b jags and all that? I went out the other day to buy all my uni stationary and got all excited about starting!

Do you know what the health checks are, are they just more blood tests?

Not 100% sure but last year I think it was at Dundee so like Glasgow, Dundee & Newcastle dental schools go to wherevers hosting it...I think it's Glasgow this year ...But I think everyone just gets drunk and the unis have like little competitions againt each other and each uni has a different theme...I'm thinking thats all it is anyhoo but seems fun !! 'But if it's an excuse to get drunk then they sound fantastic haha.' << Haha I like your thinking  !! I'm putting hep B jags off for as long as possible ... not the biggest fan of needles when they're going into me :O!! Although when its me jagging other people it's all good !! Have you had yours yet...if you have are they sore :-S?

Just realised that I can now throw all my school stuff out ... yayy !!! Aw I'll have to go on a wee stationary shopping spree soon lol!!

No clue but I'd imagine it will probably just be more blood tests and maybe giving us more jags if theres anything that anyone happens not to be vaccinated against...I hope thats all it is :O If they test our fitness or anything then I'm probably fudged if I'm honest :L!! xx

That sounds so much fun! And we are hosting it, even better!
I had mines done when I was younger. I'm not sure why but I'm so grateful for it now. From what I've heard they are not too bad. I'm not the biggest fan of needles either but can't wait to start giving jags! I just found out we get to practice on each other in 2nd year! That will be a laugh!

Throwing out old school stuff is the best part!
I love stationary shopping, how sad haha. I bought all these dividers and polly pockets cos I was always really unorganised at school most my notes were shoved in my bag and eventually lost. So I'm gonna try and be organised, don't know how long that will last but hey wishful thinking!

I hope it's just blood tests and not us having to run on a treadmill or something. Last time I did that I fell off haha

    You looking forward to freshers?

I love madira cake but I only seem to get it around christmas time. Haha I know I'm dreading that part cos I love sweets and chocolate so much. People always say to me you should know better you're gonna be a dentist! But the way I look at it is thats a good thing cos we will be able to fix our teeth! Haha but you can't not lick the spoon! Haha I would love that plus it would be really great for business, people would eat the cakes and then need to come to dentist to get their teeth fixed!

I was the exact same with the stuttering at the beginning I was so nervous but then once I got into the swing of it I was ok. When I came out from my interview I just burst into tears. How pathetic! It hadn't even gone badly I think I was just so relieved it was over with, cos I had put myself under so much pressure.

I know I'll need to leave at like half 7 too and I'm not really a morning person. I like to have about a million cups of tea to wake me up haha. That is an amazing opportunity, I would love to travel. What does she do?

I was the same with steering at the beginning but you 'll get a hold of it in no time. omg a jeep thats impressive and brave! I would still be too nervous to try and handle a jeep. My car's a wee toyota yaris so its tiny, which is good! Haha wow 4 thats insane, my friend passed in 8!

thats a good idea! Or you could use thurs as a shooping day cos shops are open late or both haha

I'm not so sure but when my mum told me I had them done I was yuss!! No jags for me! How many do you need?

I know it's so stressful. And the thing is getting the grades is kinda the easy part. You then need to do so much more to make yourself stand out. I did the exact same in 5th year and stayed in from april to june. Even at school at break I would study and be like 'don't talk to me' to my friends haha it's horrible at the time but so worth it! I know you're nervous bout getting this B but you sound like you studied incredibly hard plus you're smart cos you've got 5a's I wouldn't be suprised if you got an A although I don't wanna jinx it! I took all my pottery stuff like wonky pots and mugs. I also took knitting stuff which my mum taught me to do like a week before the interview. My main thing for manual dexteriety was sports like badminton, tennis, relays and stuff to show hand eye co-ordination but that was kinda hard to show in the interview without bringing in like rackets or something haha.

You finding out through post? My wee sis has her standard grades and my mum going to the post office to pick them up at like 7!
see you'd think we'd know better!! i won't give up sweets and chocolate for even dentistry but they might shows us the "effects" and that would really put us off!

she doesnt do anything itsher husband he heklps design oil rigs, if only we could do that too! haha but i know someone who knows a dentist who graduated and emigrated to austrailia! how amazing is that

8 lessons? please tell me they were at least 2 hour lessons! thats insane! i'll need about 5 times that! awwh thats cool i want a yaris or a punto as my first car, my dads a pure saftey freak and reckons japanese cars are the best car to get so i'll probably end up with a toyota!

awwh i cant get out my bed with out a cup of tea, except for this morning when i woke up at 5 and couldnt do antyhing cause i was so nervous! haha

i always work a late night thursday so i havent been shopping in like a month!!! but that sounds like a plan cause we'll be in town.

3!!!! i really should start them but im really scared i hope somehow im immune to it already!

i love tennis! well watching it not playing it, your pure sporty, my sport right now is running about a shop! :woo:

nah i found out by text, omg i didnt think of doing that, how did your wee sis get on? how amazing where standard grades! :p:

btw i'm going to glasgow!!! :woo: i couldn't believe it like i woke up at 5 and on tvs like scottish exam results today and im like **** off!! i was in such a bad mood cause i didnt expect to do well and had only a few hours sleep, and then i looked out my window and saw one magpie, uhoh one for sorrow so i was like thats it im defo not going to glasgow now!:p: my mum came in and me her and the dog were sitting waiting til like 6 but then i realised i had no money in my phone and didnt know whether i would get the results or not so i came downstairs and got my email thing ready and come on this to look at the results thread, omg it was so tense like 50 people where leaving comments every 2 minutes! then my mum started crying pure i dont want you to go to dundee and i was just like i'd much rather go to glasgow but its dentistry and i have to go cause honeslty, i failed every nab and my teachers nearly didnt let me sit it cause i was so bad at it!! haha, so i prepared myself to think positively if i didnt get into glasgow cause at least its still dentistry and dundees really good too! so i got the text at 8.01 and it went:

    B-AH chem
    A-H business
    B-h physics
    A- INT 2 CPC

but i didnt even take in the other ones i would of happily failed evrything else as long as i got my B!! i was happier this year with my resutls than last year cause there was so much pressure, then i got my wee track update, btw how cute are ucas pure congratiulations! they're so lovely on track bless :o: then my mum started crying even more cause she really ddint want me to move!!! so yeh to that essay of how i got my results up, BDS1 GLASGOW i am so happy!!!!!!

Best of luck on your results, hope you get what you're aiming for!
woah well done on your results! you are an actual genious!! high 5 for the A in buisness (i actualyl learned about 6 months into the course that the correct spelling is business!!) i got

    A-business
A- cake decorating (it still counts as an A!!!) haha
    B- advanced chemistry
    B higher physics!

omg you got 8 A's  that is amazing, me and andrew who got 6A's last year got 7 each. I am so sorry yosrush, i will not be joining you in dundee and we won't have our one tree hill/gossip girl marathon!! its awee bit sad cause dundee would of been an advaneture but i always wanted to go to glasgow and kind of told my self i wanted to go to dundee just as much cause i didnt think i could get my condtion  its okay though, we have dentistry field day!!! we can get drunk together at least with all the other dentists! haha

well that explains your intelligence then! :p: did they meet at uni since they have the same degree yeh? awwh how cute :o:

60 hours! i think i done about 6 for chemistry haha! it was a short experiment! what was your biology one on?

see it that too but cause they're fresh eggs its okay, i done it like every week and didnt get isck but your right if your eating dodgy eggs that aint too good! you'll have so much fun being up in dundee and having independance wheras i shall be livign off my mum and dad until im a qualified dentist!! haha :p:

you got a B for english so it clearly did make sense well done i liked physics unit 1 and 3 but i just could not get unit 2 electricity and thats why i got my B i think but im still really pleased with my resutls considering i actually started working and studying after glasgow gave me my condtional, i cant believe my chemistry though, i walked out of the prelim and wouldnt even get shown my mark i think it was about 7% no joke!! and somehow i managed to get a B, that is my greatest academic acheivement so far :p: the next one will be BDS1!!! haha

nah i had to work so hard in 5th year so i took a a kind of gap year in 6th year where i would attend and do absolutely no homework or studying, completely feel out my pattern but my condtional made me get back into it so at leats i will be prepared a bit for uni, i would of felt like **** if a failed everything today and that would of happened if glasgow didnt give me a condtional to get so in a weird way i'm really greateful for it cause it's given me confidence, i dont wana start dentistry with my only qualification in 6th year creative cake proiduction no matter how much it rocks haha! im sure you dont have to worry about studying much cause i mean AA in advanced highers? thats insane! take a bow!

its weird cause loadsa people drop out of dentistry and go do engineering liek they dont seem similar but have the same appeal. aye like kids are doing sexual stuff at like 11 now, its disgusting! but every years getting worse i think! yeh i think when im in the ids dept. in work and they're running about screaming and throwing shoes at eachothers its like yeh okay, never become a primary teacher! awwh do you, i bet you they end up vets or doctors!! you'll be like the cleverist family ever!!

i was good at maths but can't count for **** ont he tills and omg i make so many mistakes on it!! your right the shop floor is so much better! i love helping people, even if it is the right clothes its still help! haha

yeh i eman its so obvious like spencer and heidi who hate lauren would be at the exact same place! i loved it though and was a hills addict! my dad took mtv away from me during study leave how mean, it seems to have paid off haha even though i watch more sport but i ddint see him take away that one :p:

awh thanks for your faith in me i wrote list last night of all my points i would say to them about how i should get a place, some of them where i have the AAAAB already and it states an A at higher or a B at advanced higher, i have one of them so that still counts :p: i think they just made up i got a B so they wouldnt have to listen to me moan!!! haha i duno if i would of got in if i got a C, my friend had BB for geography and got an AD and a C at advanced higehr and they wouldnt let her in. and thats for geography! imagine how much worse dentistry is!

note to self, marry someone in the oil industry! cheers for that but aberdeen is a really rich place.

    Amsterdam!!! haha

yeh i get the do you really wanna do that? but the most popular haha your not clever enough to be a dentist, i actually want to hit these people with my sqa certificate but i'm really dotty and silly so i dont blame them for thinking that :p: people on the dentistry forums like this understand us! haha

your actually gutted about english? did you get 8 1s yeh? thats fair enough your only B but honestly thats amazing!!! i have 2B's but one of them meant a lot to me, physics can just piss right off sqa certificate haha!

well done on your results again you done like out of this world amazing! :o: your parents are right! please be happy about them!!
