i don't understand how/why some people want to be like the characters from it?

they have a disgusting attitude and act as though they live in poverty. who in their right minds would wish to be like this?

i'm all for showing the 'reality' of today's generation but i've read many threads in and around H&R before I became a member of TSR full of anonymouses who are complaining that their lives are **** compared to those characters in skins. why do they feel like this? is it because skins makes it look like it's the "perfect way of living" ?

    what are your opinions?

I think you're reading far too much into it. I don't think they act as if they live in poverty at all... and I also don't think it tries to portray the reality of today's generation (much more of an exaggeration). I don't know of anyone who wants to be like them or compares their lives to theirs, and anyone who does is in a very small minority. personally, I find the show entertaining, not because of any relevance it may or may not have to real life, but because it's funny.

    It's a tv programme. It's not a documentary, it's a drama/soap.

No. I do however find it utterly tedious. The characters are the sort of dull, mediocre airheads I've spent my entire life avoiding.

I don't know, but I think everyone in Skins is pretty sad - why would anyone want to be like them?

All they seem to do is get drunk/drugged up, go to the most unrealistic parties I've ever seen and sleep around (and yes, this isn't far off from the truth of teens today, but the point is it is all they do). They're all blatantly going to end up as tramps when they're older. Oh, except for Effy, who'll be a crack whore.

Who says it's trying to show the characters in a good light? Not that I've seen much of the new series (it's so bad watching it is like a form of torture) but it seems to me that the main guy (can't remember his name, not Freddie or the kind of autistic one) is shown to be a complete ****.

I was watching an episode the other day for that reason, but unfortunately it's otherwise so bad I had to change the channel.

I've never ever come across an H&R thread in which someone compares their life to Skins. The closest is when someone has said the OP's problem sounds like a plot from Skins.

I know what you mean - a lot of people think they seem to lead awesome lives but I just find it all a bit... I don't know. Tiring? The whole scene they portray in Skins just doesn't appeal to me at all. I think it's a bad influence on younger teens, as although it's not intended for them, they do watch it. That's not the channel's fault, though, but it'd be easy for someone more impressionable to see the show and think that's a cool way to behave.

The first series was actually really good, the humour was subtle in the way it exaggerated teenage life. The only people who aspire to be like the characters are 14yo kids (whom it would seem are the new target audience of the latest series)
