Hi, please keep this anon, it's a bit of a sensitive issue.

Anyway, recently I've been wondering if I might end up becoming an alcoholic. I only go out once a week most of the time, sometimes twice, however, when I do go out I normally end up getting very drunk, in fact I can only remember one time that I've been out recently and haven't drank and that's because I already had a hangover.

Once I start drinking I find it hard to keep it in moderation and always end up drunker than most other people and being called a drunken mess isn't really my ideal image.

Is this a sign that I could end up an alcoholic, or is this fairly common and, apart from the obvious health effects from binge drinking, nothing to worry about

Do you drink for any particular reason? Have you tried just not drinking?

Well, I'm quite shy and not very outgoing, so I do find drinking helps make me a lot more outgoing. If I'm at a club sometimes I'll end up to drunk though because I'm trying to get enough confidence to approach girls but my confidence levels never reach that and then obviously because I end up so drunk it just becomes counter -productive.

Also, at the start I would drink to make me more out-going and because it's enjoyable but then once I start I do find it hard to keep the amount of alcohol I intake at a reasonable level.

I don't think you sound like an alcoholic and if you are that would me most of my friends are as well!

Mm that's good to hear, it just worries me that I find it so hard/don't have as good a time if I don't drink when I go out...
