The problem is people behaving like idiots
fighting in the streets, mugging ect
    These are predominantly working-class activities
I don't think the bourgeoise are some kind of basion of virtue in this country
but they are a lot better behaved
    relatively speaking
but youre behaving like an idiot now, even worse than that a bigoted one.

mugging- u think that has anything to do with the materialistic aspirations that are drummed into us constantly?

and the perceived impossibility of achieving them through routes available to more privileged children?

    again,youre the problem.

and so middle class people dont fight? are u nuts? there just not as used to it, if youre from an area that breeds toughness its hardly surprising that youre more willing/able to fight.

just like coming from an egotistical, snobbish, bigoted area of society encourages people to judge people (and elevate themselves) on the basis of their wealth or social background.

and it also makes people who know nothing, think they know everything. simply because theyre told being rich is better.

and it depends what behavior u class as good, id rather my kids (if have any) have a few fights than a lifetime of nastiness from nowhere but delusion and undue aloofness.

No, it's actually a real problem. Being middle class is pretty much "Oh dear, have you seen next doors brand new BMW, we absolutely must get a porsche before they get back from their Carribean cruise" The middle now think they are a bunch of wealthy idiots whose only purpose is to affirm their standing in society, which to other classes seems so incredibly pathetic.
This is not the case everywhere
In my area the neighbours always boast about their latest archaeological expeditions, or the next novel they're writing.
It's still amour-propre, but at least it's directed into meaningful activities

Buying a new bmw sounds pretty tacky

There is a rare occurence of a white person getting beaten up by blacks because they are white, no one is dumb enough to do that in england

It actually happened to my flatmate in Nottingham a couple of years ago, I had to pick him up from the NHS casualty drop-in place with blood all over his face and a concussion. Conversely I don't know any black people that have been beaten up by whites, although obviously being white myself I can probably count the number of black people (and by that I mean of African heritage) I know on one, or at most two hands.

Saying that though, my wife is of Asian extract (a nice blend from the Indian South Continent) and I do recall one time quite a few years ago when we were walking down Stony Stratford High Street and I only realised that someone had called her a Paki well after we'd walked past. If I had noticed then and there I would obviously have punched the drunk **** to the floor...

The matter of cultural integration is a tricky one. If everyone that came to Britain had been required to leave their cultural baggage behind with them, we wouldn't have the now traditional curry after a night out on the piss, we wouldn't even have pizzas. Obviously it's not all food based, but cultural diversity is IMHO a bloody good thing. It is only when you get the continuance of a separate cultural identity and an outright refusal to properly integrate into the existing society or even to learn the local language that you get problems. Much like all the ex-pats who were sick of the UK and moved to Spain have created for themselves, now that really is if not ironic, then certainly an interesting observation...

you regugitate some idiotic marxian narrative
where the proleterians are helpless playthings of our evil bourgeois false conciousness
and have no free-will of their own.
The fact is that the majority of people who behave like idiots and ruin the atmosphere for others are working-class
And working class people should take some responsiblity for their culture. They have free-will to stop being so badly-behaved,
and to stop listening to chris brown

I got 5 warning points for derailing/spamming/posting off-topic, you're only encouraging me to get more :teeth:

The later it gets, the more worried I get and the faster my heart beats. The NW guys don't ask for numbers - they touch, stroke and whisper some awful things in one's ear.

Last night I saw a drunk woman being carried away by another man. No, they didn't know each other. He had her on his shoulder and she was asking him "who are you, where are you taking me" while carrying her away down the street :zomg: I rather stay over at my friends' houses than walking around alone in these streets.

And no, you can't come raving with me. There's only one place we can be together: on TSR.

London is London, the cosmopolitan feel probably makes it the best thing. All of my friends are from different countries/ cutlures etc and it makes friendly banter and experiances of visiting houses, weddings, celebrations more enjoyable. Furthermore, crime is not totally specific to any race or social background as I know dodgy people from all cultures, areas, and walks of life. So as we say in London when it comes to crime 'just dont get caught slipping', and if you dont like London leave lol.

    You must really love sociology
an entire subject built on the denial of the fact that people can wake up one day, and decide to stop behaving like a lairy idiot
they can cancel that holiday to ibiza
and decide to read baudelaire instead of
    mugging old women

I feel kind of similar, I dont think I'm racist but I hate going into town and seeing groups of say Asian or Black guys but the main reason I think is they seem to almost all follow stereotypes, the black guys like to shuffle instead of walk and often wear hoodies and speak like "yo man whats up my brother"(not joking had a black flatmate who said stuff like that to me) and when I got off the train in Preston a few weeks ago I was shocked to find entire shops with all Indian/Asian staff which I found to be racist.

Also my uni has a International society which is ALL black Londoners and there isnt a single actual foreign person there they are all rich Londoners!(and I'm in Yorkshire)

I dont mind having friends of different races if they are all "white acting" as such i.e the black guys didnt shuffle, all wear hoodies and talk about their big knobs and having sex with white girls and say the girls are whores and pretend they can rap and are ghetto except they are rich(I knew one in my house who rented 3 houses in same town!)

    Please keep anonymous.

Living in London is really turning me into a racist. I'm white, and I live in a predominantly black area, and I often feel unsafe. I feel nervous when I travel anywhere as I'm often the only white person, and even my white friends have started saying how they feel uncomfortable on the bus being the only white person.

I also get annoyed when everyone around me is speaking a different language, or with a really strong accent. I feel like I'm being stopped from going into places because being white and English means I don't belong. It angers me when I find someone working somewhere who speaks little English, when so many young people are jobless yet again. I find it extremely unnerving, and feel that these people should make more of an effort to take on the English language and traditions when they move here.

I get fed up with the tourists in London and how expensive everything in London is because of them. I get annoyed when there's always someone who pushes in front of you because they don't understand the concept of queueing. I get anxious when I walk past a group of people in hoodies (regardless of race or gender) because they've brought over an American 'gangsta' attitude, and this is particularly prominent in many parts of south and east London.

What happened to the polite England, where 'sorry' was the most said word? Where are peoples manners? What should we do with people who say 'England is crap, X is so much better!'? Should they have the right to stay here?

This isn't a question of race, so much, but I think people should make more of an effort to adopt the English ways when they move here. I respect that people want to carry on their own culture, but going out of your way to promote it is causing societal segregation.

Am I in the wrong for feeling like this? I feel that if the situation were reversed, and I were abroad and emphasising my English ways I would be heavily frowned upon, and don't understand why it's seen as alright to carry on this way.

I kinda know how you feel, you are exactly like my friend

He told me his story and i just said:

It could be frustrating at times
you just have to accept the fact in the old days, every other race had to fight for equality and racial divide, just appreciate the fact that in the uk we live in a free country that every man and women should be equal and that every society is coming together for the better good!!!
