I write on behalf of my girlfriend who wishes to persue a career in accountancy. Her current plan is to pay for an AAT herself (about 5k i think)and then look for jobs saying that she is already doing an AAT. She has no A levels but hopes the AAT is all she needs.

I was wondering what people thought about this route. Also what kind of jobs should someone starting an AAT be looking for to get on the rungs of the accountancy ladder.

Is there an better way for her to persue this?

    All advice greatly accepted.

AAT usually do bookkeeper/accounts assistant types of jobs

If she can she could try to find an employer who would give her a job and pay for AAT but usually they want A levels for those schemes

if she doesn't have a levels she doesn't have any other routes probably

What kind of positions should she be applying for to be able to study while working?

Positions that support AAT study - they are usually labelled AAT trainee or A Level leaver
