I worked night-shift for around a year so scientifically I'm at least ten years older than I really am

I'll get on fine just as long as there's no dancing or beer pong involved
Aww man, one of those grumpily-dispositioned gremlins that hold fort in the dark hours. I'll agree with the comfy seat though, I spend way too much time standing up these days.

Don't get me wrong, I like having a laugh and a drink but it is a lot of effort for my trodden liver and weary bones to do it the way I think a lot of freshers will. Beer pong is definitely beyond my capabilities nowadays :p:

My liver is in perfect tact and I don't fancy having to face the alcohol. Weary bones I can do though. We'll definitely have to be the grumpy old men in the corner, tutting and discussing how it was better back in the day.

I was flicking through Glasgows sub-forum and most of their flats are mixed sex.

I am so jealous!! The idea of sharing a bathroom with girls is the only turn off but I'd love to live with two or three of the prettier sex :awesome:

Basically I'm saying that you're going to find yourself with some sort of trouble, like the character Charles Bronson plays in Deathwish although eventually he starts looking for trouble as he becomes a vigilante.

    Good ol' movie I think.

To get this thread back on track nothing wrong with Aberdeen! Monday nights has cheap vodka and bowling at Codona's, The Bobbin has drinks for £1, Tiger is cheap and Snafu has the black tooth rock lounge which I intend to go to someday. Tuesday only exo and espionage are open but exo is cheap and plays old music woop. Wedesday I canny remember much aside from the bulldozer thing at exo but never been. Thursday not a clue. Friday is Korova night for me and usually offers in most places as they are vying for business. Not been out on a Saturday or Sunday ever I don't think!

According to this eternal pessimist you don't meet anybody outside your accommodation area (Hector, North Court etc.)

    He's brilliant.

It really is sad that Aberdeen (like so many universities) chose to build **** in the 70s and 80s. Universities like Aberdeen and Edinburgh really need to be served with some sort of architectural ASBO and have their building design processes handed over to someone with a bit more sense.

A "student village" sounds nice - it could have been nice - might even still be; you see, it doesn't have crime, urban decay, has a ready source of residents willing to pay over the odds and one authority to maintain it all. I suppose that makes it a socialist utopia - and indeed demonstrates why socialism just doesn't work: because nobody gives a ****.

    1. Awesome nights out. TigerTiger, Liquid, Tunnels, Korova, Paramount, Pearl Lounge... whatever you want, it has it. Except a Union, but we have the Bobbin

    2. Yup. I lived in Hector and there were some fairly frequent parties. As Keeno said, the only time they're banned is the few weeks before exams. We've never told the wardens about parties in our block, and never had a problem. Hillhead as a whole has a big Christmas party and a summer one, held in the sports hall off the back of the Hole.

    3. Single sex flats, but mixed floors (except ground = male) and blocks. 3 flats of each in mine. Plenty of mixing (except the medics are notorious for not mixing as much  ) - in Move-In Weekend everyone's banging on everyone else's door to meet everyone, and the Hole is awesome in Freshers for just plonking yourself down next to someone and saying hi - and still being awesome friends at the end of the year

The main reason for that was the university development act of the 1960s which made universities reassess their long term expansion and as a result created masterplans that involved a helluva lot of concrete. Seems they are trying to remedy it these days though... albeit v v slowly.

On topic - If you're into dance music i would recommend my fav club and employer, snafu (www.clubsnafu.com). During the week it's student friendly with 1 quid drinks and an achingly cool clientele. Music policy is electro and dance and entry is normally free - £3. On weekends its pricier but serves up the best techno and house you'll get outside of glasgow.

Guests coming up include bloody beetroots, the crookers, cagedbaby, troy peirce and brodinksi. so if any of them appeal to you, make sure you get down the club. we'll be running some pretty intense pr over freshers as well, so come say hey and im sure we can sort you out with some goodies.

Other than that, aberdeen is pretty lacking in good dance music. Korova tends to play grimier music- dubstep, breaks and all that. which is great for a change of pace.

    Hope this helps.
